Im not sure why, but i grip the club in the fingers at address but either before or after impact it slips to a more palmy grip Causing two things 1) the psoriasis on my hand to hurt like hell 2) hitting it awful, so awful i may quit Any idea why this happens? Grips lost grip?, grips to big? No idea

as a side note the harder i grip it the more control i have over the shot it seems, a slight loss in distance, but deffo more control

can hurt the fingers slightly though on occasion and cause some blisters

on a scale of 1-10 in grip pressure, 10 being holding on for dear life im usually at a steady 3-4, nice and controlled (to a point) but the club slips a little,......when i hold at say 7-8 the blisters start but the control is back, no club slip, 9-10 and shankkkkkkkkkk

so many theories on the correct grip pressure, i dont know if im just elarning my own swing or really ballsing it up

Maybe trying to reach an unrealistic position at the top of the back swing (poor technique or flexibility) leads to the hands fighting to stay connected throughout the swing.

I second this.  Also, I wouldn't compensate with a a firmer grip.  That is counter productive.  Throw another swing video up.  I'm sure someone will see something that might help.  And definitely don't quit.  The swings that I have seen of yours are good and getting better.

lol heat of the moment, aint gunna quit

not sure on backswing issues :S but could be something to think about

I'm thinking my grip might be wrong fromt he get go and ive had it to much in the fingers and wrapping my left hand over the top of the club too much,...certainly would explain why the club then slips slightly into the palm and the snap hooks im hitting lately

will try for a video on saturday at the range, no idea how to get it onto pc and embedded though as my phone is the only net access i have

There are some traditional grip fundamental that still hold true, but ultimately your hands need to be placed in such a way that they can return the club to impact in a consistent manner. Regardless the root cause, it sounds like you're struggling with this right now. The last time I suspected grip issues I tried the 10-finger grip for a few holes. Right as rain after that (jinx).

hmm grip picture could work i guesses

i found this picture whilst surfing earlier, which is good to show where you lay the club through the hand,...at the moment im gripping the club above the green line,.....so it enters through the first knuckle line on the index finger,......and exits where the letter D is on the picture

at the end of the swing the butt end has slipped to where letter N is, occasioanly right up to where letter C is (the primary area of my psoriasis, it hurts like hell i tell ya)

I tried with a club on my lunch break having it enter where i normally have it on the index fingers first knuckle line and then exit at letter N, felt quite comfrotable actually, even with a loose grip the club didnt twist/slide much,

also felt good by gripping it on the red line as per the picture, felt wierd at first, but after a few swings it felt quite good

Look up "hogan proper grip" on google images. The first picture shows the proper placement of the club in your left hand. Sorry, I would post the picture but I'm on mobile'

2 things...first, perhaps change your glove.  I know that I had a glove that I always felt made me have to grip tighter to avoid the club spinning on impact.  That would be my first recommendation...change your glove.

Second, based on your scale, grip around a 5, take one extra club than you would normally, and swing easier.  That has helped me tremendously just in terms of control.  I try and grip light (or strong) and kill the ball, I never get a clean shot.  By taking a 9 iron for a 140 yard shot and gripping normally and swinging easy has been a major help than what I used to do, which was take my pitching wedge, grip and swing like I was trying to kill a charging puma and getting it on the green 1/10 times.  Much nicer getting it on 8/10 times!  Also less blisters and other nastyness.

Well changed my grip to what would be line N in the above photo and it feels way more solid and doesnt slip Still got a bit of a hook going with 3-7 irons,....im thinking either my grips to strong or im playing the ball to far forwad and closing down on it. Josh - i changed glove as my other gave up, doesnt seem much difference, all in my head i think

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
