I could be wrong but I think the intention here is that Tiger and Phil wouldn't say they almost always chip to 2 feet and 'nearly chip 2 in every 9 holes' because they don't . .and perhaps was suggesting that the OP doesn't, either.

I would not be surprised if they talked smack during high school, but since that was about 20 or more years ago and there was no real internet presence then, we'll just have to use our imaginations. I highly doubt they were thinking about just making their varsity team and based on how agressive young players are, I have no doubt he almost chips in a couple times every nine holes. I know I did at that age - sure didn't leave myself within 2 feet every time though : (

Work hard on short game. That I would say is the key to making any team's varsity squad. During your tryout don't let your nerves or bad shots get the best of you. If you need to, go to your local bookstore and purchase one of Dr. Bob Rotella's golf psychology books they will help a lot.
