Steve Stricker is trying to win his 4th in a row at the John Deere Classic .  In preparation for the tournament, he sought out the advice of Tiger on how to get this done.  Tiger's response was:

Quote:
"He told me to get it done," Stricker said. "And he also threw me a jab, saying `Only one of us has won four in a row.' "

Stricker also added:

Quote:
"But there's still a nervous energy," he added. "So I don't know if being more relaxed is good or bad. I don't feel the pressure that I have to go on and win this week. I've had a great run, and I'm going to try like mad to do it again."

Having won the tournament 3 times in a row already, is there more pressure for a 4th or is it less pressure considering you have already won it 3 times in a row?

Unfortunately, I can`t speak from personal experience, but I would think the pressure would be similar as for a defending Champion with the exception being that you know you are capable of repeating.

Depending on how important records and golf history are to the player, that knowledge may be off-set by the added pressure of trying to get in the record books along side Tiger, Sarazen, Hagen and Young Tom Morris http://golf.about.com/od/progolftours/qt/conswinssame.htm

I have to question this bit of drama..  Steve dude!.. Why seek out advice?  It's not like you haven't played the course, and it's not like it's a major.. It's a weak field normally to boot..  I almost get the gut feeling this was just a PR stunt to get some drama and attention going for the event..   Like it'll make this John Deere more important then others.... Really?   Have ya'll seen the gallery at the tourney this week.. Pretty slim if you ask me.. Steve, you are better then this, atleast I thought so..

Yeah, because I'm sure he just spontaneously said these things for the press.  I'm sure he wasn't just answering questions he was being asked by the interviewee.

I was wrong apparently, in my other post.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Winning a low key event on the PGA Tour is one thing. Winning it with the fourth time in a row is not quite the same. He's dealing with a mental side that most players out there never face. To close down the fourth in a row.

Its no use. Apparently these 'weak' field tournaments are a joke.

Its not like EVERY player in the field has a chance to win or anything.... Oh wait, they do!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
