It's crazy, but not all that rare in the pros. I know Phil was carrying a 6 degree driver for a while and might still be.

6°!!!!  Why not just use your putter!  All joking aside, if you have the swing to hit a driver like that why wouldn't you?  The extra yardage could help you significantly on link style courses which are often wide open.  As long as you don't slice a shot into heath you'll always have an unobstucted view to the green.

I met a guy last summer who had a 7* driver, we were playing at Windstar Casino in Oklahoma, it was windy as hell and this driver was really useful; I don't think that guy missed a fairway all day come to think of it.

What's his impact position look like? Does he hit the ball on the upswing? The difference between 6* and 9* is very small. Considering that launch angle is the result of a couple factors, he could have a launch angle that's closer to average than expected.
