If you didn't watch the ending of this tournament because of the lack of names it was a shame. I almost didn't watch it but it was fantastic. Hunter first building up his lead and then losing it and coming back on the 18th with two incredible shots to tie it up. I gotta admit that I was really pulling for Williamson because of how rare of a chance it might be from now on for him to get a win and how Hunter will win tourneys in the future. Either way, it was quite the tournament.

I too was rooting for Williamson, but he had two reasonably makeable putts and didn't make either. His second attempt was pushed from the outset.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Greetings ....

PGA Tour Exemption Categories

The $648,000 2nd prize that Jay Williamson earned at Hartford is well in excess of what the 150th player on the 2006 Official Money List earned - that was Chris Riley, of all people. So Jay is now eligible to accept as many sponsor invites as can be offered to him for the rest of 2007. The Top-10 finish alone gets him into next week's Buick Open.

Item - Because Jay is on the non-members money list, he is currently not eligible for such things as Fed Ex Cup Points or money towards invitations to a future major.

If Jay Williamson's 2007 PGA Tour earnings equal or exceed those of the 125th player on the final 2007 Official Money List, then he gets a 2008 PGA Tour Card. He would be exempt in the category below that for the regular Top 125.

If Jay wins a PGA Tour event, then he'll be elevated to the regular money list and be eligible for the Masters, PGA Championship, Players Championship, Mercedes-Benz Championship and have job security thru 2009.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

I can't remember a more exciting finish. I had just mentioned to my wife how unbelievable it would be if Mahan hit it inside of Jay again. That was one of the most clutch shots I've ever seen. I was pulling for Jay to make the putt, but I didn't think it was going to happen. The guy was probably still in shock after hitting two fantastic golf shots just to watch his opponent better him both times.

I loved this ending. Played with some friends yesterday morning and when I came home, my wofe had thrown a surprise birthday party for me. Basically all of us were so hot from golfing, we just sat on the couch and watched the tournament.

I used to live right over the river from this tournament and have a friend who lives on the 13th hole. I would go every year without fail to this event and enjoyed it immensely. I even went when I was a kid when it was held at Wethersfield Country Club.

Just glad to see an exciting finish to a great event and hope the Travelers Championship becomes an event that pros want to play in. I do miss the old Greater Hartford Open (GHO) moniker but Travelers is a great sponsor (worked for them for 5 years too).

    • Amazing US Open to watch. Of course I was rooting for Bryson, but a little part of me wanted a W for Rory. Hope this fuel Rory to win a major soon.  Interesting to see how much is going to take for Aberg to win his first major.  Scheffler is human, thank god.. we need more tight final rounds like this.
    • This discussion and Bryson’s media figure reminds me of a trend you see all over the place in social media and Internet in general: staging. I don’t use Instagram a whole lot, but enough to come across videos that are obviously staged, but presented as happening randomly. It falls in like with the “fake news” part of the world where you can’t trust anything. People (influencers, celebrities, politicians etc.) throws stuff out all the time that are straight up lies, pretending ignorance, or twisted to make it sound more interesting than it actually is. Then there’s the overreactions. Youtube and Instagram are filled with thumbnails of shocked content creators “LOOK WHAT HAPPENED 🫣😲🫣”, then it’s some staged or stupid shit. I miss the time when most of what you found online was not staged or stupid. The sad part is that it works, generate clicks, ad revenue and people make millions on that stuff. At least Bryson is primarily a professional golfer. Bryson raking the 18th bunker while holding the trophy puts more of his face in the media. There’s no reason to do it, but it makes for some good photos and he’s building his persona. From the entire week you can see how he interacts with the audience way more than most of them out there. Part of it is probably just being Bryson and giving the audience something extra, but I always have the thought in the back of the head that it’s not the entire reason. Players being emotional, engaging and showing more of themselves than hitting a golf ball is good, but at some point you cross the line into being fake for the sake of attention.
    • It's not false if all they did was break ground but not build the thing until 2017. Again, the first "location" wasn't really a location if it was some dirt with a few ceremonial shovel scoops taken out of it. I don't think it was ever actually built. The second article doesn't even mention the first "location."
    • I couldnt find anything saying the first one was canceled so I assumed it was the same project. Admittedly the info on the specifics is limited. Either way, the original point of the earlier tweet by the guy was that no Payne Stewart named center was announced when Bryson started at SMU. Thats factually false. The fact that it ended up somewhere else is somewhat irrelevant imo. The two locations are only 10 miles apart as far as I can tell?
