If that's the case I'm glad to hear Detroit is improving.  I haven't been there for 10 years and when I was there it was scarier than any place I've ever been to in NY, including Harlem.

As for problems with the country, the real problem is we don't make anything here anymore (okay, very little).   The difference between now and the 1950's was when WW2 hit, we were a manufacturing country and a lot of people went back to work and the economy recovered.  Today we're not seeing an economic boost because of the wars we've been fighting in the Middle East because everything is going to China.

I'm reading a book called Aftershock, written by the guys that predicted the 2008 economic failure and based on their predictions, things will get much worse before they get better.

The city is slowly turning around...Dan Gilbert is doing a great job at helping bring businesses down to the city.  The downtown part of the town is the best it's looked in years, especially after Ford Field and Comerica went up about a decade ago.  If you're not from Michigan, or have Michigan roots it's easy to listen to the media and read the bad press about the city.  It's much better then it was 10 or 20 years ago.

To get somewhat back on topic, look at what has happened to FL since the NASA budget has been cut.  I don't necessarily think we should push for more space exploration, but I do believe the NASA budget is very important to our country.  Prepare for novel...

One of the largest problems with this country, the United States of America, is our education system.  In the 1960's kids grew up with idols like Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Jim Lovell.  Today our youth idolizing sports stars.  I'm not saying althletes aren't educated, don't take it that way, I'm saying that kids aren't looking at scientists and the working class americans as idols.  NASA having a larger budget will help promote the sciences to our youth and get us better on track with the rest of the world when it comes to Mathematics and the Science fields.  I've seen manufactoring mentioned a few times in recents posts, mostly dealing with the auto industry.  Manufactoring is getting outsourced, it's no longer an American necessity to lead in manufactoring and those jobs should be outsourced.  I said it, they should be outsourced to countries like China.  They can make goods must cheaper which in turn helps out our economy.  Consumers don't pay attention to where something is made, they look at price.  Cheaper goods will boost the economy by allowing consumers to have more funds available for savings, investing, vacations, etc.  I kind of went on a tangent with my thoughts, to get back on track...A larger budget for NASA is beneficial in numerous ways for the United States.  It promotes the sciences and gets our youth excited to get a further education, and it employs Americans in jobs that are beneficial to our economy.

Agreed.

I remember reading an article where Marc Cuban spoke about the shape of the economy. He brought up how college students are racking up debts in order to get a higher paying job. College costs are rising, jobs are scarcer and scarcer. He mentioned how student loan debt is the only debt where you can't claim personal bankruptcy from.

So, more debt, less ways to pay off the debt, and banks still giving out student loans like they are hot cakes. Sounds vaguely familiar to something that happened in 2008.

as far as the original post is concerned. Yes we have gotten much of what we use in our daily lives from the space program. There is something unnatural and not to our advantage in asking and paying the russians or the chinese for a lift to space. so I say it should continue.

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
    • Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.
