Good morning golf nutz.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day morning. The coffee pot is brewing, dogs sleeping on the couch and morning drive is on the TV life is beautiful.

I'm missing out on lowering my scores because I'm playing without a wedge. I found this used Titleist 56 degree at globalgolf.com, http://www.globalgolf.com/product/golfclub/-/pid--1014695/wedge/titleist/vokey-spin-milled-tour-chrome-09.aspx?gd=3

It looks like a good option, haven't really heard anyone say anything bad about the Titleist wedges. I'd appreciate your feedback! Just want to make sure it's not a complete dud. Keep in mind I'm a 117 average (and improving ) and I don't plan on setting the world on fire, just need some help around the greens.

Thank you

Lee

Furthest thing ever from a dud - Vokey wedges are among the best, really can't go wrong with Them. I have Vokey sand and lob wedges, and won't be changing anytime soon;-)

Vokeys are definately a wedge you want in your bag.  If you look at all wedges in the pros bag ( not saying what the pros use is what you should use) but everyone carrys a Vokey.  I only say that because that really shows how much better this wedge is compared to others for nearly every tour player to want one in there bag.

Is their any real difference between the 2009 and the new version out right now?

"There" is a difference in the grooves and probably changes in the R & D that you won't notice.

The grooves are different but in general not really, especially to most ams. The 2009 is a great wedge and you won't do much better.

My current wedges are:

PW that comes with my G15's (45*) It's strongly lofted, so I hit it about 125-130. And I'm not a HUGE swinger either.

$3 Wedge I pulled out of a barrel at a dirt track I play at sometimes. It's a Shakespeare Gary Player Tru-Aim from the... 80's? No idea. It's... fine. But I'm not consistent with it, and its so different from my other irons that I don't use it. Don't even know the loft of this club, and cannot find the info online. Probably weaker than 45* though.  I just do the 1/2 or 3/4 swing with my G15 PW, instead of wonder.

A Sand Wedge marked 'Sand Wedge'. It gets me out of the sand, I suppose! Totally different grips, clubhead shape, and feel from all my other clubs. No idea who made it, don't particularly care for it. Another dinosaur.

I am also a 115+ (see, 120+, lol) player, and I just got both a used Tour Chrome 09' 56* and a 52* as well off of ebay, each for about the price that one you got is. They are en-route right now! I hope we like them!

I think and hope that having 2 new wedges that I have all the info about, that are from the same series/year, and in decent shape, for a decent price will help out from 120 and in, as well as out of the sand.

Good luck with yours!

I got two rounds of golf on my new wedge and I'm impressed. First time out I didn't get a chance to practice with it at all and was a little uncomfortable however, when I got to the end of the round I was getting more confident with the club. Last week I some good practice time in and was able to see some results chipping onto the greens! I just need to work on getting to the greens on less shots and I will have this down :) Thanks again for your input everyone!

I've finally gotten used to my 52* and 56* Vokey's. They are great! And for 70 bucks for the two of them used off ebay, great value!

The 52* is my 120-90 club, and the 56* is for mostly whatever is inside 90. The 56* provides lots of control around the green.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
