I like to tinker in the shop, so I decided to build a putter. I took a piece of solid 1" square steel bar stock and cut it to 4 1/4" length. Then I drilled and glued in a piece of 5/16" round stock, and bent it at a 25 degree angle. To this I glued on a shaft I cut off an old club. Just like that I had a new putter.

The thing I like about this putter is that it stands up on it's own, literally. You can place it behind the ball, walk around and line it up with the hole, then go back and get yourself all settled down before even grabbing the thing.

I played a round with it yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with it's performance. I found I could three putt with this club just as well as with my normal putter. I also found it to be quite useful for hammering tees into hard ground.

It might not make it on the tour, but if you get the yips on short puts, this might be just the ticket. It has a nice slow swing and very little torque. Heck, the head has so much mass that you could throw your back out trying to twist it. It's deadly on short, straight puts.

On the down side it's a bit heavy. I like to walk the course and my shoulder started to hurt after about the third hole. A cart might be advisable with this type of club.

All in all, it was fun to build and try out.

No putter is complete without an accessory or two. Say you're out with your buddies, it's a hot day, and the beer is flowing freely. It's a close match going into the 17th hole and you need that extra psychological edge. You suddenly remember the secret weapon.

You casually reach into your bag and snap the magnetically attached airfoil on to your putter. You know the years of aerodynamic research that went into developing this marvel. You revel in it's sporty look.
Confidence flows through you as you line up that 20 footer. You don't even notice your partner is laughing so hard that beer came out his nose. All you know is that you have now found that elusive edge. The match is yours for the taking.

Should have shafted it with actual rebar. And put in a steel insert into the face for firmer feel.

Maybe attach a weather station on it, humidity and air temp could affect the aerodynamics of that air foil.
