Don't like how the guy moves his head so far to the right in demonstrations.  Going to make everything harder to do from there and harder to see the ball.  I agree with the left shoulder going back but it also has to go down.  On average PGA tour players only move their heads 1 inch on the backswing.  Very important commonality.

Yes I now am getting my shoulders to turn but am moving my head to much. Need to do the first without so much of the second. However I was doing exactly what he say as far as swaying bending elbow lifting hands and coming over the top.

the tour pros have lots better flexibility than me so we shall see.

As Shawn Clement would tell you - you come over the top because you are trying to hit the ball vs being focused on a target.  He makes it seem like it's just as easy as that, though - ha!  For me, I need to work on positions, then go back to feel, then back to positions, etc, and the better I get, the more I understand target focus but . . .still, not really.

I think you're youtube video would show up if you removed the extra stuff from the link - like feature=player_embedded, etc, etc.  That usually works for me.

You hit it on the screws.  I can get a pretty nice looking swing when there is no ball in the way. That what I have been doing at golf tec working on positions but I was getting stuck. This let me swing the club. but it will not last to long.

ive ditched the thought of keeping my head down.... ive gone to keeping my head still and keeping my eye line constant...

I view my head position in two axis; vertical and horizontal. Vertical position determines arc depth, and horizontal determines center of gravity, or the apex of the arc.

If I position the ball in the middle of my stance for a fairway iron, and keep my head perfectly still, I then have to pick the ball cleanly off the grass. I find that to be quite difficult to do consistently. However, if I move my head slightly forward and down before the down swing, The club head strikes the ball first, and I get a divot afterwards. I also get a lot more power that way.

Your weight has to move forward before the down swing to counteract the torque generated by swinging the club, and to add a lot of power. I shift it just at the start of my downswing.

To illustrate this principal, put a small weight on the end of a string and start swinging it like a pendulum. Notice that you have to move your hand forward at the top of the arc in order to increase the speed of the weight.

The golf swing works on the same principal, and so does a baseball swing. The batter steps forward right before the swing in order to generate more power.

A back sway does just the opposite. Try it with the pendulum and you'll see it kills the swing.

The axis of the pendulum has to stay fixed on the upswing, then shifted just before the start of the downswing. That's all determined by head position, because your head is located at the center of the axis.

Becoming target-focused is definitely not easy, and it's far too easy to slip back into bad habits of trying to hit the ball.

However, when I do have good target focus and let the club swing via gravity rather than manipulation, it's amazing how flush I hit the ball and how on-target it is.  So, that keeps me convinced that it's the right way to swing the golf club and thus I continue in my efforts to rid myself of my bad habits.

Take a few swigs of this stuff. You still may not get it, but then you won't care either.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
