I was out playing a track close by today and I closed out the first 9 with a solid score but then the nightmare started. As we were playing the greens keeper was changing hole placement in front of us as we were playing. I started to wonder if we did something to him. Every hole had a pin placement like PGA Sunday tournament. One was on the peak of an undulation, a few were placed on inclines and the others were inches away from a down slope. To make matters worse, some of the greens were spongy and slow and some were lightening fast. I can't remember ever playing a more difficult putting course. It was fun too but also extremely frustrating. All you could do is laugh at the hole placement and say WTF.....

I asked if there was a tournament soon but the pro shop attendant said there was know that she knew of and the course would be done for the year this Sunday but people could still play and maybe they were trying to ward of people, lol. I was like "huh?".

Anyway I thought I would rant and general comments are welcome...free golf after Sunday woo hoo if you can find the ball in the leaves!!

I have seen some really tough pins this year, many like you described.  We have joked about whoever set the pins saying that they either don`t play golf or are cruel.

Not necessarily the worst placement I ever saw, but remember dropping a ball from should height next to the hole one day and seeing it roll 20 feet away.

We had one putt from one side that crested the hole barely and rolled 4 feet past. Then I putted from the other side, barely crested the hole and rolled 4 feet down the other way. It was insane.

Is this a common thing in the NE?  Courses just let you play in the winter even thought they are closed?  That is pretty cool (until it starts snowing on you, I guess)

Funny about the hole placements ... maybe he thought to himself "Last time all year I'm doing this, I'm gonna have a little fun!"

We used to play in Portland, Maine in the winter.  Only place I ever played wearing a parka and gloves on both hands.

I played in the snow when I lived in Nebraska. I was quite a job putting on the greens.

Prout's Neck closes today and we play that one free which is a private course. They even leave the flags in for ya. Not a bunch of courses do it though, at least that I know of.

I just looked at my scorecard and I three putted 4 different times on the back nine :(  I may 3 putt once a round usually.
