I am going to guess that you are outside the US, so it might help if you elaborate a bit more so someone who is familiar with your situation could help you.

When I went to Australia many years ago, I am pretty sure that I used my US handicap to play in stableford competitions at my friend`s club.

My guess for your situation is that if your handicap is not from the same organization as that which sanctions the clubs you want to play at, then it will be up to the individual club to decide if you can use your society handicap.

If you are in the UK then you will not be able to use your handicap in Open Competitions. It would need to be an official CONGU handicap. I am pretty sure this will apply to continental Europe where EGA handicaps apply.

You would almost certainly be able to use it in social Invitation Day competitions where you are invited by a member of the club to play.
