Help with Driver choice

Greetings from Atlanta, First let me say, i am not a great golfer by any means, only golfing about 2 times per year. HOwever, i am going to golf alot more. I am also in the process of taking lessons. On a normal day, i score in the 90's which isn't too bad for me. My main problem is my driving. I am not consistent, and may hit one or two good drives on 18 holes. Mostly they are going left into the woods.

I bought the Burner 2.0 Super fast (regular shaft 10.5) driver after getting fitted. During my lessons i found out that i am swinging my driver about 103 to 106 mph which is quite fast. The driver is way too light for me IMO and the ball is going all over the place. I don't want to screw arond with my swing  or speed because i am being told that my form is good.

My question is, i think i need a driver with some meat to it. Can you suggest what i should be looking for? brand, weight etc...? any opinions would be great.

Just get a stiff flex shaft put in the TM.  Stiff flex should straighten out your drives.

Agreed... have the same driver.

What I did was put a Aldila NV stiff shaft in it.  The OEM shaft in the Burner is pretty whippy as it is, and with your swing speed it doesn't suprise me that you're snap hooking it.

The OEM shaft is 46.5 inches so I had the Aldila put in at 46" since it's slightly heavier and put a heavier grip in it (Golf Pride VDR which is a heavier grip than stock).  Those changes put the swing weight from stock D9 to D7.  Even though I lost 2 points and put a heavier grip on it, the club feels a little heavier towards the head.  That might be just mental, but I like it a lot and I can seem to tell where the club head is during my swing better.

I did take a gamble though, by not getting fitted for a shaft.  I just picked one off the shelf and had the guy through it in.  If I had the money, I would have gotten fitted; however, 50 bucks for a fitting and 80 bucks for the shaft, grip, and installation was too much for a club that I bought for $150.  I got lucky, but worst case I would have just sold the club on CL or something and bought another one if it didn't work out.

Thanks for the reply's. And yes, with the stock driver i don't feel like i know where the head is going. I will look into a re-shaft, depending on price. I have found some other drivers for about $120 that i seem to hit better (Cobra S3) etc... I hit the new Titliest 913 pretty well, but i am not good enough yet to spend $400 on a driver.

If you are looking for something a little heavier, I would recommend the Titleist 910. I just got the 913 and it is noticeably lighter than the 910. That is what I was looking for, but it sounds like you have the opposite in mind. The 910 is the best driver I've ever used and you can pick one up pretty cheap now. I will echo the other posts by saying to get fit for the right shaft.

thanks, looking at the 910 tonight. Local golf shop has it for $229 which is still a little pricey for not such a good golfer.

Personally I have just received a TM R11s (9.0, stiff) from GolfRedefined.com .  Great service and I get to demo clubs when I want them.  I've had the R9 up to recently, not trying the 11s and it certainly has "meat".  I'm also hearing good things about the Titleist 913 D2 which I am going to try shortly.

If you liked the Cobra S3, then give the AMP drivers a swing.  They can be had for about that same price too.  I got my new 10.5° AMP for $140, and it's flat out the best feeling, longest and straightest driver I've ever swung.  They are very similar in a few ways; E9 face technology, adjustable face, etc.  The AMP has the dual roll that keeps the loft closer to spec at above and below the center of the face.  And I think the shaft in the AMP is much better too.

The AMP is much lighter than my Callaway Diablo Edge was (Cally 320g vs AMP 299g), but I can feel the head of the AMP WAAAAAAY better than I ever could with the Cally.  The AMP certainly doesn't feel as light as it is!  Which is good, because me and light driver have never got along well.  Until now......
