I've been Playing Golf for: 1.5-2 years. But dabbled my whole life

My current handicap index or average score is:5-8 ish

My typical ball flight is: high slight draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: high baloon fade right of my target, the occasional shanks, and a large pull.

Videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXrefw2Qr5A&feature;=youtu.be (the first swing is a little off camera but theres 2 after that)

Im trying to hit a draw thats starting right and easing back left but right now I've got a high fade ending right of my target. That and a pull.

I'm also trying to get rid of that stand up move at the top of my swing.

Any thoughts?

Swing looks good. Good tempo. I can't be sure (others on here are more knowledgable than me) but, I would say your path is a bit outside in. When you get the face shut, you hit your pull. When your face is square or open (to the target) you are hitting your straight fade or push fade.

Your hips twist too early (before ball contact on the second swing) causing a over the top miss which in my case, results in a pull or pull fade. Shift your weight laterally without the turn of the pelvis before hitting the ball and focus on keeping your right elbow tight to your body. I struggle with this often and it is hard to know when you doing it but if you watch your video, you can see the slight twist of your hips causing a slight casting motion bringing the club outside the plane.

Thanks for the help. That sounds about right, I have trouble with some overactive hips. The lateral thing makes sense, I know you want to turn rather than move too much laterally, but I think I overdo that and try not to have much of any lateral motion.

If anyone has any tips on how to better get down in the slot let me know.

    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
    • Day 13 - 2026-01-02 One hour short game work. Chipping balls to different targets, compass putting drill with 2-3% slope.
