I'll never understand this.  My dad is the same way - despises the Yankees and Giants way more than he likes the Dodgers.

Of course, I don't even understand caring enough about a team to worry about what happens more than about 3 seconds after any game ends.  I enjoy watching games sometimes and enjoy seeing my teams do well (which never happens) but just don't care about any of it once the games are over.

It's a hard life to be a Bengal/Reds fan. In a smaller market, they can only afford to get just good enough to keep you hooked. Every few decades, they spend extra money to boost the franchise success, but then go back to pocketing millions. I've been a Bengal fan because they were the local team. When I lived in the DC area, I rooted for the Skins. For whatever reason, I moved back to Ohio and fell back into the Bengals fandom trap. I guess I now have the TB Bucs, Miami Fish, and Jacksonville Jags to choose from now. Maybe I'll start watching gymnastics or synchronized swimming.

The smaller market thing is a real problem for the Reds, but not so much the Bengals. The NFL revenue sharing and salary cap keeps teams from outspending each other in a real significant way.

Baseball has gotten so lopsided from a money standpoint that the Reds have to take their shot, blow it up and rebuild every 5 years or so.
