Mobile Updates

The New Posts page is the heart of many users' visitation pattern. They go back and forth between New Posts and individual threads.  You'll now find permanent navigation to the New Posts page inside the mobile sidebar . Look for the radio tower icon next to "Forums." Tapping this will take you to the sitewide New Posts page. Tapping anywhere else in the "Forums" bar will take you to the forum index.

Many page types are not yet supported on Mobile (reviews, for example). If you happen to follow a link to one of these pages while on a mobile device, you'll see the Desktop version of the site with an alert: " There is no Mobile version of this page yet ." We doubled the size of this alert so that it could be more easily seen on small screens. Note that it may appear cartoonishly large if, for some reason, you see it in a desktop browser, but that is not a bug :)

A minor UI update: the flag, delete, edit, and thumb-up buttons underneath Mobile posts now display an integrated "spinner" graphic while they're working to let the user know that their tap was received and their request is in progress. This is especially important with Mobile connections, where an action could complete speedily or butt slow.

Search

We found that even when searching for an exact product or article title that it was pretty difficult to find the product/article on the first page of results. We've made some relevance changes which will help articles and products make it to page 1 when users are searching for them. We've also improved the ranking order of the dedicated "products" tab of search results.

Fixes

#7640: Erratic line spacing when using the "remove nested quotes" option has been rectified.

#11960: Product page images now correctly open in a lightbox view instead of loading the source file in same window.

#11955: Old deleted posts were sometimes still visible on Mobile. This has been corrected.

#12022: The staff roll call page was showing some unexpected behavior, such as displaying very high-level users in rather low-level groups. A member's group associations are now correctly sorted by priority before deciding which group to list a member in. Groups shown on the page are also now sorted by priority. Please report any further issues you see on this page now. The issue is likely due to the priority rank data on your site, and may require a custom data fix.

#11798: When a user invokes the image uploader from an album category, that category will correctly be preselected for them in the uploader

#11889: Some browsers don't support CSS gradients but we configure fallback solid colors for these. We missed a couple of mobile sites but we've covered them now. This would have made the Mobile header look funny in IE9, for example.

#11905: Some users profiles were pointing to the avatar albums of other users. This was data-related and affected a small subset of users over a short period.

    • MSN Glover expressed his dissatisfaction with what he termed as 'cool kid meetings' between Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods and other high-profile golfers. "I think it's terrible," he stated. "And then hiding behind pace of play, I think, challenges our intelligence. They think we're stupid.     "Don't cut fields because it's a pace of play issue. Tell us to play faster, or just say you're trying to appease six guys and make them happy so they don't go somewhere else and play golf." Fitzpatrick joined the conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with the 30-year-old echoing Glover's sentiments regarding the PGA Tour changes. "He's so right," Fitzpatrick posted. "Pathetic that pace of play is spoken about every year and nothing ever gets done."     I agree. Instead of  penalizing  players for  turtle  play they appease the  slow jerks  by  cutting the  fields. They will play even slower  knowing they will NEVER be  penalized.
    • A local film critic gave the movie “Wicked” a great review. I saw the stage musical several years ago (pre-COVID) and enjoyed it. Likely won’t see the cinematic version but one never knows. I probably will go to “Gladiator 2” at some point unless the reviews are terrible.
