Is neutral grip bad ? not popular ?

Today, I went to a golf shop for shopping.

And, I was practicing the swing using their demo golf club.

Well, this coach comes in and said to me that he wanted to see my grip.

When I showed him my neutral grip, he said "that's horrible, it's wrong".

Then, he told me that I need to hold the grip differently.

In other words, a strong grip.

So I'm wondering, if most of the coaches are using strong grip ?

For some reason a weaker (but not to weak) grip helps me from leaving the face open. Also seems to help me get a flatter (not all the way to flat yet) at impact.

It really depends upon your swing.  If you are having trouble closing the face, a stronger grip can help to fix that.

Big thing about your grip is to be consistent. Grip adjustments can sometimes help golfers correct line problems.

Sounds like an opinionated donkey to me.  Without seeing you actually play, his judgement is completely irrelevant.

I am quoting my own post because I have thought about this more.  Does anybody have an idea why a weaker grip would actually help me square the face? Get a flatter wrist? Possibly even help with a more inside path?

Grips are like people, they each have there own personality. A strong grip for someone might be weak for someone else. Look at Dustin Johnson, strong grip, but he bows his wrist at the top, so this helps him out.

I personally like a strong grip because it gets the clubhead to the ball were i want it with out needing to think or feel like have to my hands in the proper impact position. To me it makes the hands more automatic. I am sure there are some people out there that have a neutral grip that does the same thing.

Oh, if that guy said that with out seeing you hit golf balls, he's the wrong type of coach/teacher.

This guy is an employee of the shop? Seems mighty rude to just go walking up to someone and make that kind of assesment unsolicited. I'm thinking you're lucky to have learned something about this guy before paying him for a lesson or something. Personally, I'd be leery about any other "coaches" they may have there; their hiring process seems sort of lax.
