It's probably a good thing I didn't seek him out in person at the club house because his angry drunken abusive behavior wouldn't have gone over well in person.  FYI, his name is mud after this entire incident and the way he handled it.  Members were embarrassed for his actions and expressed such to me on many instances.

He's just a grumpy old member that has not been happy since the club couldn't afford to remain private and opened to the public about 15 years ago.  It used to be the best course in town and now it's not even in the top 5.  I don't even play it anymore since it's so crowded with cut off tee shirts and awful conditions.

About 8 years ago, I hit what was probably my best ever drive at the time, over the green of a short par 4, after a  bounce it broke the second story window of the clubhouse.  They told me that it was no big deal, as everyone could vouch that it was an accident, a week later they had a new window, and no hard feelings.... I think if its in the way of the golf ball, its at the owners risk..... My wife plays softball, and there is a sign at the field behind the backstop (which is the parking lot) that says, "Foul Ball Area, Park at Your own Risk." So id say its their own problem just my $.02... also glass is covered (in most states) and it doesn't count as a claim on your policy or anything, so it shouldn't be an issue.

I hit a car that was just OB on the 18th hole at North Berwick golf course in Scotland. My ball came back in play and I got up and down for a birdie. :)

No broken windshield and nothing wrong with the car (it hit the A Bar or whatever it's called on an Audi).

A few months ago I broke my first window in 24+ years on a house just off the fairway.  I lined up for a draw and it just kept going straight.

As I am motoring down the edge of the fairway there was a guy standing in his backyard and he said, "Did you hit a ball over here?"  I confirmed I did and he tossed it to me and I confirmed it was my ball.  He said, "You broke my window."  I said, "OK, I'll give you my name and number.  Let me know how much it is and I'll pay for it."  He again said, louder and angrier, "You broke my window!"  I said, "I'm sorry, I'll take care of it."  He said it again in a worse tone and I replied, "Look, you live on a golf course and your house is 20 feet from the fairway.  I said I'll give you my name and number and I'll pay for it.  I don't carry my checkbook with my on the golf course and I can't unbreak it.  Do you want my info or not?"

A couple days later he called and I went to his house and wrote him a check for $140 (he had the bill).

My personal philosophy is I hit off the course, so I'm responsible for what it does.  I now hit an iron off of that tee.

The most difficult distance in golf is the six inches between your ears.

I have broken three windows from hitting a golf ball. Every one was my own house.

After replacing the third one I decided it wasn't a good idea to hit a bag of balls away from my house with a pitching wedge and then to hit them back toward my house.

I also learned what a flier was, and learned that my wife has no sense of humor at all when a ball comes through the window.

To the OP, I don't think you are required to pay for the damages.  If the car owner parks there he is doing it at his own risk.  If it was an accident and the course has a policy of "park at your own risk" then the car owners car insurance would cover it under the comprehensive coverage.  If he does not have comprehensive coverage then he is out of luck.

Off the course is one thing, I would cough up for that, but a car parked ON the course I think is a little different.  If you hit it into a parking lot or across the street I would say my bad, but if they were parked on the side of the course, I say their bad...
