I use GolfShot and I admit to being a pretty heavy camera user during a round.  My iPhone 5s battery did struggle to finish a couple of 4.5 hour rounds last year and required that I shut down other apps to conserve juice.  My iPhone 6 has yet to see the course but I am confident that the better power management that seems to be in place on this platform despite the larger screen will handle even longer rounds without a glitch.  Since it seems like someone in our foursome will have forgotten to charge their device, I keep a 5200mAh PowerAdd cell in my golf bag.  It will power an Apple iPhone, Ipad or Android phone and it cost me less than $15 on Amazon.

+1 on the Hole19 app. It's now available on android but I never had any issues on my iPhone

Im using swing by swing and have it set on medium low. I track most of my shots and score every hole. I use about 20-35% battery after 9 holes.

I think GolfLogix seems to be a little better than Swing by swing as far as battery consumption is concerned. I have both apps and should do a comparison tomorrow with Swing by Swing.

Dropping down to 65% battery in 9 holes does not sound that bad, actually. GolfLogix might be at 75 to 80% after 9 holes, which falls into your range. I have spare batteries and battery life extenders.

I tried just tracking my drives and score last week and used about 10-15% total on 9 holes. So it depends on use. I would imagine if I set it to use low battery that would be much less for everything. The medium low setting seems good for me though. I tried the medium high setting and it used like 70% of my battery in 9 holes.

The GPS portion should not use that much power, so I'm not sure why it is using 70% of the power. You can turn off the display and keep the app running in the background as well, that might help?

This is my setup as well. I do have extra batteries if I want to do a Vlog.

The "Swing by Swing" app for Android and iOS has several power saving options. One will completely turn GPS off when you turn your screen off. I have a Galaxy S5 and use the medium low power setting and it uses about 30% battery in 5 hours (driving range plus a round of 18). My friend has an iPhone 5s and it takes about 40% battery in the same amount of time, same setting.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

    • We do not buy extended warranties. We will use one of our credit cards for the purchase that extends the warranty "x 2". Our thoughts are: a. if the item is a lemon, it will likely break right away and we can attempt to apply the original warranty or credit card extension. b. over the long haul, we will probably save more money by not purchasing the extended warranty and fixing/junking broken items out of our own pocket. The important thing is to keep some records of purchases so one may make a claim under the manufacturer's warranty. I recently sent back some Footjoy shoes for leaking and Footjoy did a reat job of making the claim process work very well. I had the original receipt, warrant info and box. Easy peasy.
