I have been playing golf for 4 years now. Year 1 no lessons year 2 about 8 or so lessons with the same course pro. Very simple plan was set up and ball position. Year 3 and almost of all of year 4 no lessons set up and ball striking falling apart. So here I am now and just to ok a lesson last week. I am having a lot of issues adjusting to the new set up. It seems I was droppings my shoulder on the back swing and basically crumbling on the attack. So now the new set up he has me really far from the ball with my arms extended.and my knees bent a bit more than usual. It feels really odd. I was more upright before and now it is all.about the arc of the swing. Does this sound normal? I am 6'2 if that matters

I'm gonna be the first to tell you what a bunch of others here probably will say....post a video of your swing in the 'My Swing' thread, and a lot of knowledgable people in these forums can give you all types of great advice.

If you're in your 5th year, why did you change pros? Just curious. Maybe go back to the pro you had, and see why you're setup that he taught you is 'off'. But the key item is being able to control your low point. You can look like Jim Furyk, Tommy Gainey, or Adam Scott. The key is controlling your low point.

And path. I can take pretty little divots all day long and still hit OB if my path is ****ed. Definitely post video for better info, look up the threads on here about the correct way to video your swing, but in the meantime, what's your most common miss? Hook, slice, push?

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Thanks for the responses. It may be some time before I am able to post a video of my swing. The reason I stopped going to the pro who taught me originally is that A. He quit golf. B. Which I found out later after my lessons he never passed his pga trials. My common miss now is a flat out duff. Real chunk or thinned so poorly. I am not sure what happened to make me have such a drastic change in my set up and actual swing path. Without a video I can say that as of now 1 lesson in the new.set up is so foreign to me. Hands are far from body and knees really flexed.

I'd highly recommend you get a solid instructor.... The worse thing you can do is go to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about, and gets you into a position that is going to either a.) cause an injury or b.) cause you to get so frustrated that you want to quit the game.

There are a lot of great instruction threads on this site.  I'd recommend you check this area out:

I had my 2nd lesson tonight. Good results. He changed up my grip and added a swing path that worked fantastic. I stood a bit closer to the ball and had a more comfortable knee flex and was really taking to the new changes.
