Just ordered a second set of wedges for Hopkins. Should be here tomorrow. They gave me a great deal on upgraded finish, no cost, because the finish I ordered was out of stock. So I got the satin chrome before it was even listed on their site. It would have been my choice anyway. Got the 54 shelf grind custom stamping with KBS Hi Rev S and a 59 heel/toe.

The new satin chrome finish from Hopkins. Unfortunately they messed up my order so still waiting on wedge two, I assume they will resolve it. Though I must admit I like the tour raw better so this may be going back.

I'm very attracted by their grind/bounce recommendation system based on region and predominant turf type.  Golf Digest is still sending me mags even though I haven't reupped my subscription for a year or two.  Last issue was the hot list, where they gave Hopkins silver (which means basically fail, cause they give gold to all but a couple clubs reviewed in each club type), saying they had nice club setup but needed to work on "face and groove technology".

I tend to view that list like I do politicians.  Sort of owned by their corporate sponsors, so shouldn't take their giving an upstart company a crappy review too seriously.  But I'm interested in responses from those of you who've got the clubs.  How's the spin control versus something like a Vokey or a nice Callaway?

The HL means nothing to me because it's based on reviews from people hand picked by GD and my guess is most are LCD/mainstream types. It never surprises me the highest rated gear is not coincidentally the most popular brands. IMO the Hopkins offerings are basically an affordable custom Cleveland. My CG15's are nearly identical, other than the grinds, to the Hopkins.

Nice.  I love my Cleveland wedges, so that's a plus!

Yeah I assume pretty much the same thing about the HL.  More just some waste time golf porn than a real guide.  That's why I asked here!  My beloved Titleist CBs (I own the the 695s but have hit newer ones at the store) got a silver as well.  The negative comment was basically that the long irons are too hard to hit.  I haven't found that to be true (of course relative to my HC, not like I'm stiffing pins with my 3i all day!)

Thing I like is for the cost of a new 588 you get to choose the shaft and grind. I really like the Cleveland stuff, the CG15 was one of the best off the rack budget wedges I found. The sole of that not too far from Hopkins heel/toe grind. But with CG the options are limited unless you customize and at their prices it gets into boutique wedge range. With promos the new Hopkins came in at $99 each with upgrades. Though they hosed my order.

Shout out to HG for sending me a large Hokins Club Glove towel, dozen balls, HG hat, poker chip, ball mark, tees and bag free for the problems I had with my order. The big problem now is I don't want to send back the incorrect wedge they sent me. I will be calling them to pay for that so I can keep it. Great customer service.

  • 2 months later...

These look pretty sweet, and may as well support a sponsor of the sandtrap with an order or two.  I am currently gaming a stock 56.14 I've had for a long time.  I will be using it for shots between 95 and 105 yards and the occasional long bump and run pitch (rare I hit this shot). I use my 60* for pretty much all scoring shots inside of 95.  My 56 and 52 are the last two clubs I need to upgrade from my "first set".  I love my 60.12 for short touch shots, but I don't like my CG15s for "iron-style" wedge scoring shots (in the fairway about 95-110 yards out).

A bit about my game/where I play:

I play in Louisiana in firm turf conditions.

I usually have clean, fairway or bare lies in the short game.  I rarely have to hit wedges from deep rough or bunkers (remember, this is for fairway shots, not greenside shots).

My wedge miss is almost always (95%+) a slightly thin hook that goes left and long and doesn't leave a divot.

When I hit it correctly, I leave a small divot about the size of a half-dollar.

I don't dig much when I hit wedges.

I was thinking about a "Shelf" grind, +1* flat.

Any suggestions before I place the order?

Got an email from HG last night. Buy one get one 1/2 price limited time offer. May just be the 56 and 60 but they'd probably honor it for whatever if you called CS.

Is there a code to enter because I don't see the offer on their site

The problem with this code is that it ONLY applies to FULL soles.  If you want a custom grind you are out of luck unfortunately.  Looking to buy my first set regardless, although I would like that discount, and just am waiting on some answers from their customer service dept.

It is also only for Tour Raw wedges (which rust) not the Satin versions.

The wedge is pretty good but the service is very bad. I ordered a wedge (Raw) more than 2 weeks ago. After a few days, I got email saying that it was OOS and it will arrive the following Wednesday. When I checked back, I was told the wedge arrived 45 min ago and they will assemble it and deliver to me by Friday. However, Friday came and went and I got no ship notification or any other communication. I emailed again asking for status and was told that the Chrome wedge was delayed!!. I have to call to clarify that it was not Chrome I ordered and then was told that they have to Raw and will begin assembly.

I called back again Monday and now was told that they CANNOT LOCATE the wedge in the UPS facility!!! But was promised that they will call me back the following morning and give me an answer "one way or the other". The next morning I waited the whole morning and no call came. I called back and was told that they are working on it! What kind of chaotic operation are they running there? I decided to cancel my order and ended one of the worst purchase experience I had online. Now I need to make sure they indeed refund the money. If Hopkins don't shape up, they will go down quickly. I was planning to recommend them to all my golf buddies but now I am going to warn them instead.

Well, I was right. They ran a really sh*tty operation there. I saw an email confirming full refund, but when I checked my Paypal, there was no record of the refund. I have to email back to inform them that before they finally refund to Paypal. I wonder where they were refunding it to previous to my correction, Are they thinking I won't check and try to play some trick? I will not purchase from them again and all perspective customers need to be careful.

I think you're the exception since most of us have ordered from Hopkins and didn't have any issues with their service or wedges.  I'm always skeptical of people that join forums and only contribute in threads that trash the vendor.

Well, I am sharing my bad experience. May be I am the exception, but I think this UPS operated manufacturing business model is very immature and once their business volume increases it will face many issues. In my calls with the customer reps, it appears too be disorganized.
