Ok, educate me. What's the difference between these two sets of clubs? Aside from the Red's being $100 more than the Gold's, and the obvious color difference of the Gelback inserts, I cannot find anything.

Right now I still have my POS Dunlop starter set. I've replaced my driver, fairway woods, putter, and also my 3i and 4i with better and up-to-date technology. The rest is being replaced this winter.

Maybe Santa will be good to me. I just need to tell him what I want.

Is Cleveland truly the best wedge maker out there? Other sets I should be looking at? I'm a 24 handicap on my way to 18 by next summer (hopefully).

As for wedges, I have Cleveland 588 DSG's and love them. However, I've had Vokeys in the past and like them as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Cleveland or Titleist wedges.

Yeah, the Red is supposed to be more of a Player's iron: less offset, thinner topline, shallow cavity, smaller head, etc. The Gold would fall into the game improvement category. Along with progressive offset, thicker topline, slightly larger head etc, I believe the gold "gel" back is supposed to be a little softer than the red for increased forgiveness.

This may be the same link listed above but it compares the two from the clevelandgolf.com site.

I'll have a review of the CG Red online in about three weeks. I don't care for them a whole lot, but they're not bad. I'm just not a "cavity back" kind of guy, and the distances seem oddly inconsistent if you catch them a little high on the face.

CG12 review this Friday.

Anyway, I think they answered your question, no?

Short answer: we write reviews.

Barely longer answer: the exposure gained by the reviews we write also acts as a form of advertising for the manufacturer. It's win-win-win.

So.... wouldn't that mean you're probably more inclined to have to write a positive review? Even if you think, say, the CG Red irons are a piece of crap, I don't think the manufacturer would like you saying that in your review.
