I have an appointment on Friday to get fitted for some Titleist clubs. I have never hit them but my game has improved enough to where I feel it might be time to see what they are all about. I have an appointment with one of their club fitting specialists at 1:20pm on Friday.

I'm guessing they're going to do the AP2 712s though, right? I am really not sure which way I am going to go because I am not sure I know the difference between the AP1 vs the AP2. I am very tempted to wait for this fitting until after the 714s are released.

AP2 is a more traditional size, shape, and loft. AP1 is more forgiving, larger head, lower COG, more offset, and stronger loft. AP2 is marketed towards a better player, but several PGA Tour pros play AP1.

AP2 also is marketed as a forged club though only the face is forged.  The AP1 is more a GI / SGI club where as the AP2 is GI for lower handicaps that want to work the ball but still want some forgiveness beyond what the CB and MB offer

Titleist was doing a local fitting at a country club here, so I decided to stop by after my round this past Friday.  I got a chance to see the new 714 line, and at first glance - ALL models are super, super sexy.  Since I know that I'm eventually going to game the AP2's, I decided to try those out - only got a chance to hit the 6 iron with a few different shaft options.  I hit balls for about 15-20 minutes, and I can tell you one thing - these things feel like butter.  Mishits felt solid, solid shots felt amazing, and the club looks SO good at address.  For me, the dynamic gold option felt the best at impact, and the KBS seemed to have a little better trajectory.  However, it was getting dark so it was a little tough to truly gauge distances/carries/etc.  So for anyone that is even remotely thinking about getting the new AP2's, do yourself a favor and go hit them.  My guess is you walk out carrying a brand new set of irons.  November 8th - we're ready for you!

You should go hit them, I have the 712 AP1's and hit the 714's and didn't feel or see much difference.  I use the 712 AP1's as my travel set and was considering buying the 714's to leave at my course but when I tested all the irons I found I hit the Mizuno JPX-825's better than both the 712's and 714's.

    • Obviously everyone takes things very literally here  my apologies. Two club lengths and back on the angle perpendicular to the green and where the ball was assumed to have crossed when it went OOB or was lost.  To a hacker like me anything on the short stuff is “middle of the fairway”.     It also seemed that it would favour a big hitter who has gone OOB as they don’t have the risk of hitting a drive into OOB twice in a row if they are allowed to take that rule. But the rule is the rule. I’ll approach the club and see what their take on it is. Strange that when this guy brought this rule up the others had not heard of it. It makes a lot of sense to me.
    • The decision to use the MLR is the player's alone. He has the choice regardless of what others may think.  If he finds the original - all ok. If he doesn't, he follows the procedure with a 2 stroke penalty. But he doesn't "play from the middle of the fairway".
    • Another tournament prize for me yesterday.  Not played golf for a year and two weeks back played a tournament.  Horribly inconsistent round.  Post that didn't touch my clubs before playing another tournament yesterday.  Fairly decent round with the exception of 3 triple bogeys, 2 of which were OB.  The other was just bad shots and decisions.  Still finished 16 over and was runner up in the gross stableford event with 22 points.  The winner had 23 points
