today I caught steven ames and woodys replys to the media booth after there rounds...
steven got asked about his pairing with tiger last time... he set the reporter straight and rolled his eyes, here we go again...can't we just talk about my round today or yesterdays round. and woodys questions still boardered on his temperment..
his reply was even better.. why is it if tiger slams his clubs down on the ground you call it competive drive... and when I do it you call me out of control.. he brought up some other great ones too, it was a great interview. I just can't believe how much they dwell on the past and such.
I thought only girlfriends remember stuff like that from the past...lol

boo's interview was the best,
I'm just in this game till I make enough money to just quite and go fishing/hunting all the time, maybe like 10 more yrs...
question to boo.. how much money do you need to do that....????
I don't know, I'll let you know in 10 yrs....lol

I actually like Woody Austin alot, I do think it's ashame that they take out of context his style of play compared to some other players on Tour....sure he's a bit emotional and wears them on his sleve but he ain't trash talking other players or throwing his clubs etc...(even though several yrs ago he did break his putter over his head ).....

Don't you mean "broke his head with his putter?"

I do agree with Woody and Ames, why is it always about Tiger. Hes my favorite but This is really getting me angry. If you are getting interviewed obviouslly you dont want to talk about some other golfing and your pairing with him.

Woody Austin came across as a bit of a Pr!(k after Tiger won. All I heard him do was whine about how you always know where Tiger is because of his crowd roars and that he wanted his crowd to let Tiger know that he wasn't the only show in town. It came off as small and bitter...

I realize that these guys are amazingly talented and have to constantly live in Tiger Woods' shadow, but the level of bitterness by some is a bit much. While I also realize that there is a double standard (i.e. Woody Austin slamming his driver is bad, Woods slamming his driver is competitive drive, etc...) I don't have any sympathy. Quit talking and win...quit being so thin skinned, work your butt off and beat the guy...talking smack and being bitter is not the answer.

I didn't take anything he said as bitter, and I give Woody a lot of credit for standing up and issuing a challenge. He shot a better round than Tiger by two today, after all.

He's just answering the questions being posed to him. Of course he knows where Tiger is and of course he's going to say a big crowd follows Tiger. Say anything else and he'd by lying.

While I realize he was trying to answer the question, I found his tone a tad bitter. I am not denying the fact that Austin played an excellent round of golf.

I found his tone to be bitter and he came off as small in that post round interview...so I guess we can disagree on this one.

I think I found his tone was a little bitter too but I really can't blame him. He put on a fantastic round today and most likely just wanted a little more recognition for his achievement. I know he had me rooting for him to have a close second place finish today. I really liked watching him play, but I couldn't root against Tiger. It'd be impossible...

I can see why a lot of these guys are frustrated and may come off as bitter. As I said previously; these guys are amazingly talented, career athletes who undoubtedly are diminished in public stature and receive less face time because of Tiger.

For me, though, it makes me like the guy less when he fails to be gracious after a loss. I just watched Ernie's post round presser and he was positive and gracious. Tiger has complimented the play of both Sabbatini and Austin. I just don't have much patience for people who run their mouth and can't back it up.

Austin didn't necessarily run his mouth, but he comes across as being consumed with Wood's stature and how unfair it is that the media and fans put Tiger on a pedestal. Like I said...it makes a guy seem small...

I've also heard that W. Austin is a bit of a pr!(k in person...his post round comments seem to cement that rumor I heard.

your damned if you do and you are damned if you dont

it sucks, sports media today is a joke.

Just today I was listening to ESPN radio and I forget who it was on there tried to say Vince Young was going to fail this year etc etc. He named one of the reasons as saying he was getting into trouble fighting with a team mate, if thats not slanted journalism I dont know what is. He didnt even mention the reason Vince got into it with the guy was because he was sticking up for his teammate who the ******* had just cheap shotted on a tackle by jerking the guys neck and shit in practice. I mean its pathetic.
http://www.youtube.com/v/LLad4svAKc0 Theres the video of the "fight"

All they do is talk about the past and try to stir shit up, im sure a lot of them dont even watch the event, whats his face on ESPN Bob Hariq says stuff about choking and such when hes clueless. Like Sean O'Hair on 17 at the players, he didnt choke at all, he was playing to win and stuck his 9 iron right over the top of the flag, it was just the wrong club, then his 2nd shot he tried to get too cute with and it just didnt check. But of course thats not mentioned at all, its just sean o'hair choked blah blah blah. Im sick of the sports media here, its disgusting, ESPN and such is nothing but a tabloid channel now.

When you ask these players what do you expect them to say? I mean really, they twist shit and take it out of context and all of a sudden its news on the front page of espn.

"But I outplayed him today!! I shot a better round than he did!"

None of that matters though, only the final score matters. I thought he sounded bitter, too.

But yeah, I agree, it would have to be totally frustrating for the reporters to CONSTANTLY be asking, "Tiger this... Tiger that..."

I think the media are idiots. They just prod and probe to try and set a guy off so they can get their "story".

Sure it's frustrating. Unfortunately there is only one way to remedy their frustration..shut up and win.

Woody's assertion that he played better on Friday tee to green is laughable in it's irrelevance. Last I heard good putting is just as important as good tee and approach shots. Same with the comments about him outplaying Tiger on Sat and Sun. Last I heard the tournament is four days...low score at the end wins.

How anyone can take this guy seriously is beyond me.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
