I just read this on Gary Player's wiki...

"At the age of 14, Player played his first round of golf and parred the first three holes. At age 16, he announced that he would become number one in the world. At age 17, he became a professional golfer."

Now I can usually pick up anything that requires great hand eye coordination relatively fast...but this is unbelievable. This is on a whole other level of fantastic. How can such a young mind wrap their head around knowing exactly where to hit the ball?

What do you think is the main attributing factor for these players like Player or Norman who could play so good instantly? Great genes? Stars aligned? Impeccable hand-eye coordination?  It just fascinates me. Parring the first three holes on your first course has to be anything but luck.

Not surprising at all. In fact, the North Korean news agency reported that the late Kim Jong il shot 38 under par with 5 aces in his first round of golf ever played. Top that one! ;)

Are you suggesting that most of these incredible stories (Norman/Player) are falsified? :D

LOL.

I don't think Gary Player has ever been shy to "pump his own tires".

That's why they were on the tour. It DOES take a special talent to play that well.

But what do you think is the main contributing factor to their fast golf success?

Hand-eye coordination? Ability to visualize their shots? Competitive nature?

All of the above, plus superb flexibility and strength.

What is it about the greats? They play a lot better golf than us not-so-greats.
