thank you, i agree completely. I hate this golfer attitude that we are superior therefore no one should make loud noises or hit out of order etc. Golf is a SPORT guys! The, "get in the hole" only adds to the atmosphere. If a touring pro seems bothered by it, then he probly shouldn't be playing on tour. Also, if another fan doesn't like it, then they should probly leave. This whole, "golfer attitude" that alot of people have only does bad things for the sport.

It's not "golfer attitude" it's golf etiquette. Learn it, love it, live it! People who are and want to act like drunken idiots can go watch worthless garbage like hockey. And yes, the Masters is better than anywhere else.

I have never yelled get in the hole at a tour event, nor will I ever do so... I will however be watching the upcoming Stanley Cup playoffs, or as you referred to it "garbage"...

It's only stupid to say that when the person is off the tee on a par 4/5.

Could be worse. You could have drunken idiots jumping into sand traps and making "sand angels" just like on 17 yesterday when Tiger and Phil were on the green. Needless to say, he was swarmed, handcuffed, and escorted off the premises and told never to come back again.

Yelling "get in the hole" doesn't bother me at all when there is a good chance for the ball to drop in the hole. It shows enthusiasm for the sport. It certainly seems to be yelled too much.

The statements regarding drunks and drinking seem ironic to me considering golf is one of the only sports that I am aware of where alcohol is served to the participants.

I voted "Hate it," but I don't think it lowers the image of the sport. I just think it's dopey. It was funny once, and I laughed the first time I heard it on a par 5. But every joke has a lifetime and it ran out on gith a LONG time ago...

I guess at least no one's shouting "whasssssuuuuuppppp" any more...

Anyone who yells that should be beaten about the head with an 8 iron, tarred and feathered, and then punished severely. Hearing some idiot yell "Get in the hole" is the golf equivilent of nails on a chalkboard!

indeed!

I personally hate it. I think who ever says it is an absolute idiot. If the ball is rolling toward the whole and has a real chance of getting in, I can see it. But yelling it as soon as they tee off or even as soon as they putt is ridiculous.

100% agree

I hate the "get in the hole!" guy. What I did find HILARIOUS though, was a couple of weeks ago, when Watney and Phil were going at it, Phil teed off and some guy yells... "Get in the water!!" HAHA! Now thats funny stuff.

that's just classless BS... that guy should've been tossed (maybe in the water).

When someone behind me yelled GITH (for the 6th time) at an LPGA event I turned around and asked him if he NEEDED some attention or just liked hearing himself yell. He didn't say it again for the next 4-5 golfers who teed off, and then he left, probably to go someplace else where he could say something stupid w/o being called out for it. The guy standing next to me, right in front of the idiot, leaned over after I made the comment and said "thanks, I thought he'd never shut up". I'm pretty sure captain load mouth idiot heard him tell me that too.

Hockey...worthless garbage

ditto that... what's hockey have to do with this... and why would you call a sport worthless unless you wanted to piss people off. Hockey takes a great deal of skill, and I'll assume you lack the skill to play such a sport, thus feel the need to make such comments. Of course, judging by your handicap... it's not the only sport you lack enough skill to play.

^^ Fat Slice, that is great.

After just seeing the ill effects of the "get in the hole" yelling guy, where Tiger just barely missed that par putt on 18 at Quail Hollow today, I had to see if this topic has a thread. Sure enough, here it is. Anyway, my choice in vote isn't there, but hit on by kfowler. When the ball is headed right towards the hole looking like it has a chance to drop is the worst time to yell that. Everyone should know that is exactly why those putts don't drop, yelling them out of the hole. Keep it down before the putt goes in, let the ball do its work. After it drops, yell away! Come'on.
I personally hate it. I think who ever says it is an absolute idiot.

I do things like that when im playing. If I chunk it, you'll hear me go "SIT. Sit down!" and if I hit it far past the hole I'll go "GO! go go go!!". Just some playful verbalization to expend the tension from a round of golf.

I'm pretty verbal at my ball too. Hey, you've got to talk to it if you want it to obey.

On a more serious topic, I dont have a problem with it, if its happening a few times a tourney. The accenture stadium par 3 is the extreme i guess, where they yell "Tip your hat" or they boo you for not landing on the green. I actually like it. I dont want to see the wave in the gallery, a beach ball bouncing in the stands, or rabid fans fighting each other. As long as they wait until after a swing its ok, low class but ok.

Yeah, that par3 at the FBR must be a different kind of feel in the crowd. I like the "tip hat" comments or boo'ing. If I were out there playing I think I'd get a chuckle from that business.

This is a pet peeve of mine. I despise it to the point where I find myself cheering against Tiger Woods. Just once I'd like to see him turn around and just ask whatever idiot is saying it, what he is thinking.

I haven't watched golf on TV for quite a few years but I did watch The Masters last week. What's up with those fans who scream "Get In The Hole" ? Most people cheer when a putt drops, or say 'awww' when it just misses, but then there are those people who are screaming at the ball while it is in motion.

Anyone else think this behavior is a little odd and annoying?

Its more than a little annoying. It is immature behavior that is more about drawing attention to the one calling out than the golfer or the putt.

Plus, it's always helpful to hear that on a 250 yard approach shot.

It's ridiculous. It was a bit of fun on the local course when this popular guy off a very high handicap, and doesn't take golf seriously, just a bit of fun, completely snap-hooked his drive, and my friend shouted it. That's the only time I've found it worthwhile though, otherwise it's just immature and trying to grab some unneeded attention.

    • First (12 holes) round in a year, maybe the third round in five years. After prioritizing family for a long time, I’m ready to play more golf. We moved back where I grew up and started playing golf. The course is close, but only six holes and pretty short, so the longest club I bring is a 4i. It is very undulated, with a lot of elevation changes and 4/6 greens are blind shots. The long game was relatively good (relative to my game and swing). Got things to work on, but the current state is manageable. One OB. Wedges and short game was atrocious. Chunking like I was making a garden. On the worst hole I chunked a 58° approach, then chunked three chips in a row… Time to search up some chipping topics and start practicing. I’ll take this over bad long game and good short game. The short game is easier to fix. Shot a net +17(!), gross +23, over 12 holes.
    • Day 118 - Spent some time working on the full swing. Need to film some swings for Evolvr tomorrow.
    • playing with cleveland hybrid irons have friends that use hybrids anyone using hybrid irons or hybrids would appreciate fwwdback
    • I dont know if I really have a favorite, but there are two that have stuck in my mind for a very long time. #15 at Erie Golf course during the Finals of the EDGA Matchplay. Was up early and then lost a few holes in row so the match was close again. My opponent had a short putt for birdie. I hit past hole high, but 35 feet right. I drained the putt and looked over at my opponent who was in disbelief.   #8 at Whispering Woods during another year of the EDGA Matchplay. Was playing a very cocky opponent who made sure to mention on the first tee how many times he won the club championship at this course. I hammered this 30 footer that clanked off of the pin and dropped. My opponent was disgusted and that made me weirdly happy. I went on to win 5&3 or something like that, so that entire day has stayed in my memory.
    • Day 20: Did 30 minutes after getting home from work, before kid's baseball practice. This session was piecing out the new hip move in transition, doing 2-3 rehearsals from the top, and then hitting a ball from between P5/P6. Did another 45 minutes after baseball practice and dinner. Did 30 more minutes of what I did earlier, and then about 15 minutes of full swings trying to incorporate athletically.
