My first even par round.  Sub-par in 2014......

Don't you love how the mainstream cliche "sub-par" is used as a negative?

--------------------------------------------------------

My favorite moment this year had to be winning my first tournament.  A great feeling.  A lot of other random little things, a good shot here, a good round there, but nothing really stands out.  My soft (because I'm probably more than a year away from any of these) goals are shooting par, shooting under par and breaking 70.

For now, just want to keep improving and competing. :)

I nominate this moment as the best of the sandtrapper's 2013 moments ... by far.

I'll second that.

I have two best moments:

1) Shot a 68 (Par 72) in my next to last tournament of the year. Unfortunately that put me in the championship flight and wasn't good enough to be in the money. Still though, I was thrilled with my round.

2) In our annual 2-day "Ryder Cup" type tournament against the other local club, I pulled a major upset the first day against the other club's #2 player and followed it up by winning the deciding match the second day to win the tournament for our team.

Even better was that these two moments were on back-to-back weekends. I was playing good golf at the end of the season.

I finally broke 90 a couple of months ago while playing front to back 18 at Bayou Din in Beaumont, Tx. My wife and me were playing with another couple and my game was just different that day. I beat my previous best by 7 strokes! I also hit the longest drive of my life by driving onto the back of the green on Hole 15 during the same round. The card shows 366 yards to the center of the green off of the white tee, so I'm guessing about 370 yards.

What sucks is that I've totally fallen apart since that round and haven't even broke 100. With the weather deteriorating this time of the year, I can't play as often so i'll get it back next spring, hopefully.

    • Day 66: Played 18! Wasn't really keeping track of score, but guessing in the low 80s. Driving okay, iron play up and down, lagging putting really bad. Overall, it was good to get out and play.
    • Day 41 - 2026-01-30 More backswing and grip work on the mat / net. Also some mirror time focused on trail weight.
    • Day 12 (30 Jan 26) -  Had hoped the men’s group would be playing, but the cold temps and delayed opening kept them at bay. Spent some time on the range working on loading the trail foot on the backswing (focusing on loading the inner portion of the foot and collapsing the knee slightly toward the ball). Learned too much really brought on a left pull.  Easing back a bit, really helped compressing the ball and overall accuracy.  Took it to the course for a practice round, focusing on this small change.  Saw better dispersion across the bag….guess this will be part of the mirror work drills as snowpacolypse 2 hits eastern NC.
    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
