How many FIR and GIR and putts are we talking about? I am interested in knowing where you lose all your strokes? Is it chunking? Is it errant shots in the woods? I think it would be great for you to track all these things if you are not already.. It will really help you formulate a plan for improvement..

It's a really tough looking course. I would also need to ask which tees he was playing.

i hit 5 greens and 3 fairways. a lot of balls went water and some i couldn't find because of fog so penalty strokes were terrible today. i had 34 putts as well. about 10 penalty strokes. 4 water, 5 lost in fog, 1 unplayable lie. I'm working on flattening my swing as well so my good shots tend to push a little which is weird for me. lol

friday will be my weekly game at oak valley so i'll be at the range the next 2 days. also my buddy a 7 handicapper shot a 93 and his friends who are about as good shot 95, 97 so it was bad for everyone lol

What time did you play? I don't remember it being that foggy today. Sounds like too many variables for me...I'd take any good shots you made and forget the rest haha.

How long did it take you to play if you couldn't find five balls in the fog?  I don't think I've ever played in a fog where you couldn't at least see a little, was the rough high or lots of trees to make everyone lose so many balls?

rough was a little long and a good amount of trees. one of my buddies friends is an older guy who doesn't have patients and is always in a hurry, also he didn't count his penalty strokes and just dropped a ball to play fast and still shot a 97 lol. so all in all we didn't look for my ball very long.it was frustrating, but I'm playing Tukwet today so it should be a better round

Kyle how is your contact? Are you hitting the ball cleanly each time, or are you chunking or topping shots still? If the answer is that you are always hitting the ball cleanly then what are your misses? If the answer is that you are still chunking or topping shots then which one are you doing more of and how many strokes does it cost you?

I've played where I couldn't see past 100 yards, and, or course, the ball is the same color as the fog. In fact, it's foggy this morning.

My contact was good except maybe 1 or 2 which I bladed. But only one was in the dog and I found that one. I flattened my swing so now I'm hitting a push. With my old steeper swing I was hitting pull fades so I'm not really used to hitting pushes since I never have before haha

That's quite a statement. I was on the range next to @mdl before our outing last Sunday, and he hit nice shots that "poofed" off the face and hissed nicely even with wedges. His flight was a slight draw on the ones I watched, and he said he was making mediocre contact that day.

I didn't make any good contact all day, and still got a few poofs and hisses from my pitching wedge. I had horrible contact with my driver (except on two holes, which were mediocre at best) and still scored 95 off the white tees.

The standards for good contact are pretty high.

That kind of brings up a couple other questions.

As long as you declare it a practice round ahead of time, it's okay, right?

How many rounds can you designate as a practice round?

this is the first time I've ever played a practice round like this. played the same shot 2 or 3 times. working on how to approach the shot and so forth. Just curious if you intended to play that way from the start or if you changed your mind some point into the round, and if so why? When you did take a second or third ball, did you try approaching the green with a different kind of shot or was it just the same shot over and over until you got it right? I've never really played practice rounds and am curious how you played yours...

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
