Here is Freddie another super strong grip suggesting a weaker grip for higher shots. The super strong grip for the short game is not recommended as Dave Pelz points out.I think Azinger has found a way to accommodate this.

Because a strong grip encourages the handle to be forward… as I said (and the opposite of what you said).

It is only fair to mention that Azinger has a super strong grip since most people don't ,I think we can agree on that and how this grip impacts the short game.

Since the only thing you've said about how it affects the short game is that a strong grip promotes the handle being back (the opposite is more true), I don't think we can agree to that yet at all, no.

Here we have Azinger at about the :50 sec mark referring to an "artificial" set up.Again, if it works ,great, but I would be careful with it.

He says the heel is shaved down-The Bounce-so he stands the club up to use a little more bounce on the toe. Ray Floyd also said to get as close to the ball as possible-And stood the club up quite a bit too.[quote name="freedrop" url="/t/71877/paul-azinger-golf-channel-academy/54#post_948539"]Here we have Azinger at about the :50 sec mark referring to an "artificial" set up.Again, if it works ,great, but I would be careful with it. Saw it...was a bit shocked he threw of on pro's, probably didn't mean to but none the less did. I tweeted him out it and he called me a troll. Thanks Paul real class. I thought segment was good otherwise. I even noted tv can be tough!

    • Day 51: Another long day, so another mirror work day. Again, focused on cleaning up set up and then not straightening the trail leg as much in the backswing. Need to feel like my knees stay a little more bent.
    • Day 595 - 2026-05-19 Got some short game work in today during some lessons. Made a lot of putts too. Without trying. Golfer kept chuckling.
    • Day 15, May 19.  Today, after work (in stages), I hit two dozen practice balls at home.  Slow swings, focusing on the lifting of the arms as per my latest lesson.
    • Day 259 5-19 Slow work on arms getting more in front. Lots of pause at the top, then rehearsals, then swing.
    • Day 70 (19 May 26) - weekly 9 hole session with my good friend this morning, however the better session was this afternoon with my grandson.  He put in for nine holes of match style play (we did stroke count as well).  The rules - I had to play from my regular tees but with irons only (no metal woods or hybrids (nothing with head covers)) while he played from the most fwd tees with his full bag.  Was a fun match and watching his competitive juices flowing.  He won the match 1/0 holding the lead as we tied the ninth.  Stroke wise it was a messy nine for me and he beat me by one stroke - not bad for a 10yr old.  Best of all - it was a dream session come true.
