I've switched to ProV1x balls recently, from NXT Tours. My handicap is on the rise, though I also switched to a mid-size grip (from the originals that came on the clubs), so I'm not sure which is to blame more (or is it just me?).

When I hit on the launch monitor, driver swings were in the 90-100mph range with ball speed in the 140's. Other than the pro saying that my swing speed was a little slow, though acceptable, for ProV1x, he didn't mention other balls that I might try.

Are any of you aware of a resource that would assist me in finding other balls to demo/try out?

If possible, you could try to attend one of those free Bridgestone ball fittings.

If not, my local Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy both have ball fittings, although those cost money. At my local ones, they runs some tests with your swing and stuff, then they give you three lists-Best 10 Distance Balls for you, Best Spin balls for you, and Best Overall.

if your local shop has HotStiks their computer system will give you a list of 10 balls that fit your swing specs. its pretty interesting stuff... I found out that my spin rates were to high with the ProV1 and I made the switch over to the B330. I gained some distance but was able to better control my trajectory.

I would second that. Bridgestone B330's are pretty nice. I used one on the back 9 a few weeks ago and I hit the lowest score ever on the back 9. I hit a 42 which is my best ever. Luck or ball, it was great. So after I use up my e6 balls I'm investing in B330's myself.

the only downside of the Bridgestone is their durablility.. I've fooled around with the B3330 and the S version and my wedges really tear up the covers. I sharpen my grooves often so that may have something to do with it. But if you don't mind switching out balls the Bridgestone is an amazing ball. I don't see many people out there playing them so people are usually pretty curious about the balls.

Here's how I do it.

1. Test with putting, some I don't like the sound
2. Test with chipping, enough spin, not enough, scuff easy, etc
3. Test with full wedge and iron, same idea as above
4. Test with woods

Takes me a while to narrow the choices down but I like being thorough.

I thought Bridgestone did something about the durability with last years version? Is it still bad?

    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
