Bloody event got suspended before I got chance to tee off then got cancelled :(

is the event only paused or was it permanently cancelled? Sad to hear that I think that first hole would have been a nice experience. Not too hard of a beginning - no need for mulligans even psychologically, you can be more relaxed, because it's a safe hole, without evil water hazards

I'd probably play my fade with an easy driver shot, and pitch on... well, that would be the plan.  I'd end up in the bunker or rough, overshoot the green, chip on, and 3 putt.

I am playing in a rabbits (16-28 handicap) event tomorrow and the course we are playing at has an easy first hole, The hole itself is a straight forward very short par 4, there is out of bounds on right and 20 yards off back of green, the rough is not too bad and the only bunker which is a pain is the one at 188 yards. The tee box is down in elevation around 15-20 ft so cant see the green from the tee box and on the right of the hole is the beach and sea line.

normally I just hit a 6i off the tee and play it as a short par 4. Now this works fine but after reading through the other "how would you play it?" threads I am trying to look at my game a little different. On the other thread somebody mention if it was labelled as a par 3 people would go for green every time without thinking and hes dead right. So ignoring that this is a par 4 and thinking its a long reachable par 3 I would be hitting my driver going for green every time, still not sure if its the correct way to play it.

My Club Yardages

Driver - 240-250

3W - 220-225

3H - 195

4i - 185

5i - 175

6i - 165

7i - 155

8i - 140

9i - 130

PW - 120

52d - 100

58d - 80

Just noticed that the distance makings on the hole appear to be meters since the actual hole measures 274 "YARDS" the markings appear meters then, I'm going to assume it's about 245 yard carry over the bunker on the right add the uphill factor and I would say it's closer to 270 carry. One of the last places anyone wants to be is in a bunker 30-40 yards from the green on a easy hole like this, after considering these different distances I think 3 wood would leave me just short of that bunker with a 50 yard pitch shot that I'm a lot more comfortable with than a 40 yard bunker shot.

Nah the distance markings are in yards, the hole information was taken from there scorecard which claimed it was 274 yards guess thats when tee's are right back.

It really depends on strengths.   Play up to whatever yardage you are comfortable hitting into the green.   For example I'm good at hittings shots around the 80 yard range so i'd probably hit a 7 iron about 185 and hit a 3/4 56 into the green.

    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
    • Of course there's not a simple or knowable answer here. But the whole Caitlin Clark phenomenon is a nice example IMO. Suddenly there was wall to wall media coverage and national attention and... the women's tournament got similar ratings to the men's and much higher ratings than the men in the final four. With every indication that there will be some portion of the uptick that remains going forward. And there's the whole element that Sue Bird brought up. That basketball needed a pretty enough white superstar guard. One who looks like the "cute little white girls" that describes most of the soccer USWNT that's been able to achieve much higher popularity than any version of women's basketball, which is dominated by black players and none of any race who could be described as little... I do think women's sports are in a good place to start taking off more though. It's really only in the coming 5-10 years that the majority of girls will start to come of age with post Title IX grandmothers (as in their grandmothers were allowed to be serious athletes). I don't follow men's or women's basketball much, but in golf for sure the women's tour has gotten much deeper over the past 20 years and only looks to keep going in that direction. I've heard the same about women's basketball. And the patriarchal attitudes that socialized girls out of sports and everyone out of women's sports fandom aren't gone but have def diminished.
