Because of the first quote I would think long and hard before handing in my resignation (no matter how stupid I think the situation is). Some things like friendships are more important than expressing my personal indignations. I once made a similar decision based on principle and I still regret it. Friends will likely still be there after the Pro and the current politics are long gone.

^this! The main reason I don't take part in comps/leagues is because of all the seriousness! People moaning and accusations of cheating! It removes the fun! I wouldn't leave a club because of it, I'd just carry on, play for fun, and leave all the cheating, bitching & whining to the serious people! It would seem the committees decision is wrong and final, accept that these are the type if people your dealing with, take it on the chin and enjoy the rest of your games!

The problem is the cheating is what takes the fun away, being  competitive and having fun during it can only work when the rules are abided by. Yeah maybe he shouldn't resign from the club but just stop playing in this format until they get their act together.

I would say the deciding factor for me, if I were in that situation, would be that I wouldn't want to let a playing partner down once I had committed to playing. It would be important to me to keep that obligation to a friend come Hell or high water.

But you see, some of us really love the competition, and if that isn't done right, there is no fun in it.  The whole point of having rules and a dependable handicap system is to make the game work for competition.  If the powers that be throw out the rule book then it sucks any fun right out of the game.

I didn't read very far into this other than the part of the pro and committee going against a clear rule, I think this is up to the OP if he feels that others involved will be understanding of the stance he wants to take, it's his call since he knows these people and whatever he chooses hopefully it works out for the best.

My #1 obligation is to my best friend. The league season is split in two halves and we both decided to leave the league after the 1st half is completed. Shame on the league administration & committee, not us.

As far as leaving the club entirely I will need to think long and hard about that. Being a 27 year member I cannot convince myself that leaving all my golfing buddies is the right decision. Because we have a political Pro and bad committee shouldn't be the deciding factor. Right now I'm all for ignoring the bad apples who think they are above the rules of golf and play my game where they are not.

It's easy to ignore the Pro, he doesn't do anything anyway :-o

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
