20 yards is a lot of roll differential for a hybrid, but not everyone uses it for the same reasons, I suppose. I don't really get a lot of roll on my hybrids, unless the fairway/rough is really dry and hard.

Course conditions are basically what dictate the roll out, that and whether I hit the ball too high or not.

I really hate thinning my hybrids, I got really mad at them two weeks ago for not behaving.

Then of course I fixed my swing to make them work a bit better. :8)

I never swing more than 75-80% because it's too hard to be consistent. Too many moving parts moving too fast for a weekend warrior. Only time I swing really hard is to clear a tree and need carry or something like that. Then i might try a 160 yard 9 iron. I normally hit my 9 iron about 130-135 also.

Thanks for the verification, I figured that most better players swing at this relative level of effort.

In fact, I have been using a swingbyte exclusively to determine my relative effort on the range and the course. Most of the time I am at about 75% effort.

Although I'm not sure what my swing speed is, I have a good idea it's above 100 mph. I'm also confident that most would say I swing too hard. But to be honest, that's comfortable for me. I've tried slowin' it down a bit, and the accuracy was worse. That's just me, though, since I've seen what you're saying in other outlets as well.

I guess you need to do what works best for you.

My 19* hybrid is my 215-220 club when I hit it good with a high ball flight.  When I hit it hard and thin it... it can roll forever on hard pan.  That doesn't make it my 250 yard club.  ;)

I actually struggle hitting hybrids off the deck.  I would much rather have a 3-iron in my bag.  I need to hit my hybrid more like an iron.

I tee mine up maybe 1/4" off the turf.

    • Day 6: lighter session today after a long day. Just some mirror work and slow swings to try to get my feels down.
    • @Philip Belgium,  If I haven't already, Welcome to TST.  Your injury sounds serious and I hope you fully recover.   Thanks for sharing your story.  ..... each day get 1-2% better.   (A ray of sunshine and a positive outlook)
    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
