I've been Playing Golf for: 7 months

My current handicap index or average score is: 94

My typical ball flight is: High Fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I thin and top the ball a lot.

Videos: My second swing made better contact.

I am trying to get a better lag position. As you can tell I release very early.
Also I am 15 years old.

Id start by adding a little knee flex you legs look very straight and Im guessing its restricting you hip turn and shoulder turn. Look at Rory here.

Also read through this thread theres a ton of good info in it. http://thesandtrap.com/t/55426/introducing-five-simple-keys

Keep working you get there

Welcome to the forum!!!

Classic "Reverse" weight shift there.

Need to loose flex in that right leg, and gain flex in the front leg.

Try this drill out. I really like this one. It kinda is a multi-tasker. It will get you feeling what the top of the backswing feels like, and a proper centered pivot. Notice in the video how his right leg looses flex (don't totally straighten it, let it loose flex), and how his left knee gains flex.

I would hammer this drill A LOT!!

Here is another drill that will help you get the impact position better as well. First I would work on getting that backswing fixed there, and learn to get a more centered pivot.

I worked on the knee flex a bit, so I look a bit more centered. Not yet worked on my impact, but what is your thoughts about my knees?

It is fine to practice inside your house with video to see if you are in the correct positions (or you can use a mirror) but for feedback on your swing you should always take video with a ball. Also it would be helpful to have a down the line view to provide some more feedback.

  • 5 months later...

I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year

My current handicap index or average score is: 86

My typical ball flight is: straight or slight draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: hook

Videos: I am obviously releasing early. I have been trying to not think about hitting and just turn, but I am still not able to get a better angle. I know that I don't want to forcefully hold a lag angle and it should be natural. Any comments would be much appreciated!

@golfclubmogul please use your existing (this) swing thread when posting new videos instead of starting a new one, thanks :-)

Swing change looks good, I see you put in work to clean up that pivot. I'd recommend flaring your feet.

    • Day 224: played 18. Got some stuff to work on. Hit some good shots though and made 2 birdies.
    • I am in the market to buy a new or mint+ used driver. I am a high handicap player that usually uses Regular Flex Men's 10.5 degrees and I golf right handed. I can't shot shape the ball and have trouble always hitting the ball in the center of the face and it usually goes off to the right and out of play. I am trying to hit straight all the time so I can hit more fairways, also on off center shots I would like the ball to be in play so I don't sacrifice strokes all the time. I usually look for forgiveness, distance a little distance lost is ok if I am hitting more fairways then that is what i want, adjustable or non adjustable is fine, price is also a factor around 100 but under 300. I also need help getting the ball in the ball in the air and going higher. Any recommendations or other help when buying a driver are welcome and thanks
