I play the whites, or something around 6200 yds, give or take a couple of hundred.  I know my limits, being a 18 handicap, playing the back tees just extends the time it takes me to play a round of golf...not the drive, but the other shots getting to the green seem to change from the whites back to the rear tees...hope that makes sense.

My playing partners usually dictate where I play from. My son-in-law is just starting to golf, so when I play with him, it is from the whites.

I let my playing partners dictate the tees usually too.  If it's a course that I play a lot... I usually play the whites until I shoot par, then I move back to the blues.

One way to tell if you're playing from the correct tees is that the bunkers are in play with your tee shots.  If you are 30 yards short of them, you are probably playing too far back.  If they don't even enter into your mind because you fly them by 40 yards... you're probably too close.

Like someone mentioned earlier in the thread... If you can't reach all the par 4s in two, you're too far back.

I play back. I play a course that has a 77.3/143 rating stretching 7443 yards. I like playing back anywhere and everywhere. Being a +4 handicap and playing a tee or two up is mentally hard for me. I feel like I have to shoot so low to be satisfied haha sounds kinda strange I guess ..

I usually play whites depending on who I am with but the other day, we started the first hole from the white box and I had a drive that put me in a nGIR.  After a nice chip and a birdie, we moved back to blue's which really only added a few hundred yards.

I still prefer to hit from whites but I feel like I will find it more challenging in the near future going back to the blues
