What are the best courses in Central NY?

I was wondering if anyone from the area had opinions on the best courses in Central New York. I have played at Atunyote (Turning Stone Resort and Casino) twice and it is fabulous! Can't wait to watch Daly tee it up there next weekend!

Binghamton area, Conklin Players Club
15 minutes west of Binghamton, Hiawatha Links
These are two excellent courses with reasonable rates.
I play Conklin all the time, it has a great setup, even a little island green par 3. Hiawatha is a very nice links.

Binghamton area, Conklin Players Club

Wow, I went to school at Binghamton U. I have played Conklin many times, also Soaring Eagles in Horseheads (I think designed by Gene Sarazen but not positive.) I now live in Syracuse so it is nearly a two hour drive to either course, but once in a while it would definately be worth the road trip. Have you ever played Maple Hill in Marathon? That is the course I grew up on.

Played at Inlet (about 60 minutes north of Utica on Rt 28) a couple of times over Labor Day weekend - beautiful course winding through the Adirondacks. I think we teed off about 8am on Saturday and Sunday and there were no more than 10 or 12 cars in the parking lot. A true hidden gem if you make the trip up there.

I've also played Thendara a bunch of times - again, about 50 minutes north of Utica on Rt 28. Thendara is also a real pretty course winding through the Adirondacks.

My family has a lake house in Old Forge, so we play those courses often. However, it would make for a nice overnight trip to play those two courses.

I play Soaring Eagles like 30 times a year. You also should play Mark Twain in Elmira. Very tough Greens. I have played in Marathon, I think it was at the couse you mentioned. It was a couple years back.

I live in Endicott (just outside of Binghamton) and play the Links almost every Monday. Its one of the best courses around and is a great value. CPC is fun to play and State Park out that way is also. If you ever get the chance to play Binghamton Country Club with a member there dont pass it up. It has some of the hardest greens ive ever putted on.

Atunyote is nice. I also like Shenandoah at Turningstone. It's just as nice and less expensive. I don't know if you consider Rochester central or Western NY, but there is a lot of good golf in the Rochester area. Greystone and Ravenwood are comparble to Turningstone. Also Leatherstocking at the Otseaga Hotel in Cooperstown.

I've heard that Cornell U and Colgate U have great courses but i haven't played them.

I've wanted to play Conklin, Hiawatha En-Joie, Soaring Eagles and Mark Twain but haven't had the chance. How about a forum outing in the Binghamton area this Summer or in the Fall?

Seven Oaks at Colgate and Cornell's course are challenging and fantastic to play. I grew up in this area and there are a number of courses that don't fit the prestige bill but are still worth checking out like Drumlins, Foxfire, McConnellsville, Newport, Rome CC, Oneida Limited, Thendara in Old Forge...those are some of the semiprivate clubs I can think of off the top of my head.
