I have been hitting my driver and 3 wood very well lately.  I have trouble with hitting my 3 wood off the deck it is a Adams XTD 15 degree and I have it set to standard 15 degree's.  I was thinking of getting a more friendly 4 wood.  I tried a Ping G3 5 wood set to 17 degrees.  I was hitting the ball way too high with that club.  It was from the deck and I was using my "driver swing"  That is kinda flat with lots of lag.  I also hit the driver very high.  With a G25 set to 8 degrees and the ball tee'd high I get 15 degrees of launch.

My question is am I flipping the fairway wood or is it the club.  Should I try another club.  I was thinking of the Adams XTD ti 5 wood.  It is a hot face and may get me what I am looking for without the high flight.  Or maybe an Xhot2 pro?  Titilest 913F?

Is it the swing the club or both.

Most likely it's the swing, not the club. You might feel like the driver swing has a lot of "lag" but at impact I would guess the angle is being thrown too quickly, reason for it going so high. I'd recommend this drill, hips forward with the head centered and just smash the ground with the arms straight. Add the same feel with the driver and 3 wood (you won't smash the ground with the driver :-) ).

Thanks for the reply Mike. I have tried that move in the past and it turns into a slide with my head going with it. It is also tough on the front knee. The local pro that I take lessons from and respect also wanted me to stop bowing my front knee. I agree that I need work on weight transfer but is that hips forward bowed knee the only way to accomplish that?

Then I'd try a drill to help you keep a flat left wrist at impact -- keep a little bend in the right wrist to help maintain a flat left wrist when accelerating the arms (for a righty). Try half speed, half swings. similar to what Erik is doing in the video in terms of length of swing.

I guess what is odd is that I have an Adams Speedline XTD 3 wood that I hit an appropriate height off a tee.

I am actually thinking of trying a Adams Speediline XTD 5 wood.  I am going away on a buddies golf trip this Wednesday and I'd like to have something for that yardage.

We are going up north in Michigan.  Arcadia Bluffs one day than tree tops.

If  your looking for a 3 wood thats easy to hit of the deck and a club  that  gives you confidence every time you hit it  . and very forgiving you cant go past a 15* ping i 25  and the gt stripes on top makes it easy to line up

    • A few thoughts on the past few minutes. I agree that fairways are overrated, but Rory might want to reconsider that view in the short term. For the second time today, Bryson is hitting two shots in a row from the same greenside bunker.   Xander had a similar issue on 12 earlier today, although I think that only happened to him once today.  My mother and I are sitting in my living room commiserating.    Poor Patrick Reed, only bogey of the day on #18.  Shane Lowry had a clean scorecard with 15 pars and 3 birdies.
    • Three great shots from McIlroy's group (Smith and the US Am Champ) on 12.  The amateur won closest to the pin, although I doubt the group had a bet going.
    • I thought complaining about Fleetwood's appearance was my schtick   For real though, I agree with you, and when I see that, especially in a major, I'm confused.  When I play in a multi-day event at my club, I plan my clothing in advance because I want to look my best.   If no one else, their clothing sponsors should do this for them.  I think Nike used to do this with their stable -- I used to look forward to seeing their posts on the Facebook before majors to see how Tiger and Anthony Kim and friends would be dressed. Meanwhile, Jason Day is dressed fairly blandly today.  Who saw that coming?
    • The hell is Thomas Fleetwood wearing? He looks like a divorced dad from 1998. Even the shoes are hideous
    • I was wondering this and haven't seen it on today's broadcast OR yesterday's, but apparently Cabrera did show up.  He currently has the third highest score for the week and is playing his last hole of this year's event.  I'm not particularly keen to see him, but I was wondering if he was present, and he seems to be.
