i tried out the odyssey black, just wasnt a scotty to me. thanks for all your input and opinions for trying to steer me away from scotty, but its probabaly not gonna happen. im gonna get a newport 2 in 34" cause they add 10 grams to the head. for ME its perfect, i like the wy it feels and looks while im over the ball. i said earlier i can get it for 200 plus tax, i had originally planned on waiting for Christmas but today my boss hands me a 200 bonus check out of the blue so im getting a little itchy.

I would suggest going to the Scotty Cameron site and look for authorized dealers. E-bay is ok but that putter, watch out. I just bought one for $225.00 and it was a fake. the person i bought it from could not have been nicer, he was unaware (?) but he gave me ALL MY MONEY back within 8 hours of asking for it. I would only buy from someone with thousands of customers, plenty of feedback and one that has a return policy.

How could you tell it was a fake?

they offer a lot, look at their potential on

www.scottycameron.com i was gonna get a putter for my birthday instead of Christmas cause the wait was killing me, but i couldnt even hold out that long, one of our local golf stores had a 1998 used teryllium newport 2 so i grabbed it. it was the same price as the newport2 studio style i was gonna get but i like these Teryllium putters better. i havent got to play a round with it yet but i took it to the practice green a couple times and im making longer putts i wasnt making with my old putter. im consistantly getting it closer on my lag putts too so im very happy with my purchase. i have already ordered a baby T grip and scotty headcover with pivot tool. i hope it gets here soon i need that grip and no one in town had one in stock. here is a pic:

Can you provide any more information about your experience with recieving a fake scotty off of ebay? Any pics of the fake? I am curious how you found out is was fake. I don't want it to happen to me.....

Thanks!

bought a Scotty (Circa 62, model 2) on eBay for a mate (who didn't have credit card!) - he would have paid same amount in retail outlet but not with the Platinum finish - it looks delicious!

wasn't a fake, looked brand new with the finish (but had been used a little).

i've bought a few clubs onbay, go to a legit dealer with good track record and you won't get done with a fake product.

but with something like a Scotty - you might be better off getting it custom fitted

I just ordered one a couple weeks ago. Won't be done for a little while but it doen't matter, the season is almost over here anyway and it's worth the wait regardless. But you're right, Slighter putters are in a completely different league. The only other company putting out product that nice is Byron.

Scotty Cameron builds good putters for retailers to sell off the rack. Tom Slighter creates great putters for individuals. I'm conflicted, LoL... I feel like it's a shame that more people don't go the route of a smaller guy, who gives you the treatment Scotty reserves for touring pros. But on the other side, I'm glad the smaller guys are staying small because they provide a service that is heads and shoulders above the rest. I can see me buying several putters from Slighter Golf, each one is a work of art.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
