Awful lot of cynicism in this thread. It's $499, guys, and they probably have tons of open tee times during those days.

No kidding! I spend more than that on balls in a year! Write the check and go play tomorrow!

Even if you don't have money to burn like Dave, it's still a great deal. You'll be able to play a hundred rounds in a year for roughly $8 per round.

If only....! I just go through a lot of balls in a year! :8) The point's valid though. At that price, the golf will cost you about the same as you'll spend to play a premium ball on a per round basis if you play a lot. If you like the course, it's a no brainer, and every day you delay dilutes the value.

I know you mentioned some time ago that you play a new ball every round. What are you doing with your old ones? I might know someone interested in purchasing all those balls from you.

LOL.  You'd think that I'd have more laying around than I do!

Sadly I do lose a ball.....I'm not sure, maybe once every other round on average?  I've been known to catch a cart path, a tree, or something else to scuff one too.

I put a new ball into play at the beginning of the round.  If I don't lose a ball, and it's not scuffed from a cart path or some such thing, it goes into the bag.  I keep 6 or 8 clean "one round balls" in the bag.  If I lose a ball, I pull from that stash of "one round balls".  Once a ball is scuffed, it goes into the shag bag for use chipping and putting.  2 buddies have sons that play quite a bit, and I do my part to keep them in used balls too.

$500 or $5000 its not about the amount of money its about the amount of money taken off from the original. If I saw a Ferrari or Lambo for sale for $25,000 I'd say thats too good to be true, Something is wrong with that car. I just want to make sure I could get as much info as possible. I know $500 isn't a lot of money but I also don't want to dump $500 and get screwed...in not the good way!

The difference is reasonably between $800 and $500. I figure it's just the "Summer's End" savings.

I don't think you have to assume it's too good to be true.

M-R daytimes are not busy. If they can get $5 for a round of golf during those times, that's $5 of profit. The tee times are going unused.

So they likely see it as $499 they wouldn't otherwise have. That's not "too good to be true" IMO.

Have you ever done anything like this before? If not, you should try. Don't hem and haw over it. Give it a try and see if you like it. What Erik says is very true, they want revenue when they came get it. Clubs have weekday memberships for a reason. To get people there on slow times. For a course I liked, I'd easily spend $500 for the year for the amount I play golf.

If you can get 2 rounds a week this year, you'll get your money's worth, regardless of what they do next year.  I wish a good course near where I live offered that kind of deal.

Thanks guys, I'm going to see them soon and see if its still available. I just never had a membership and wasn't sure if this was common practice. Plus the post on here where one guys club just suddenly shut down really threw me for a loop. Especially in my area where there is so many courses and tons are for sale I just didn't know what was what.

I find the course very nice and challenging (for me). Plus its not very far from my house but there is more courses right in Niagara Falls to choose from. Like I said in past threads I'm still pretty knew to golf and haven't golfed a great deal of courses, maybe 15-20 different ones and this one really stood out as nice, fun and challenging.

Didn't read all the thoughts...

I'd consider it and check with my Visa or American Express to see if the course went out of business could I get a refund or dispute the charge due to lack of service provided..this is why these cards charge large fees...to protect it's users.

That might work.  I don't see any club that closes it's doors giving out refunds.  You'd show up one day, all fired up to play and there'd be a chain on the door.

    • Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.

It is not very intense (since i dont want to get sweaty in my work clothes), so just a touch above leisurely. 3 days a week I walk on the treadmill for 60 mins. I alternate the incline from 4 to 10 for a couple minutes, once every ten minutes. I lift my kettlebells nearly everyday. I have a couple complex routines. I find just 15 minutes and my heart rates is elevated
