I have always played the ProV1 but recently found two Taylormade TP Red balls in the woods and figured I'd give them a shot. Wow.

I'm not sure if it was just a good day or not, but I was hitting the TP Red about 10-20 yards further off the tee consistently. The ball also played well off the irons and around the greens.

Anybody else play these balls? I'm thinking about making the switch from the ProV1.

I did and it was very good. I was just curious what other golfers' experiences were.

Any reason why you are using the ProV1x now and not the TP Black?

The Pro V1x is a better ball. I like the A.I.M. line (as lame a reason as that sounds), I like the durability (the Blacks weren't bad), and my driver (a Titleist) would rather hit a Titleist than a TaylorMade ball.

No, really though, I feel the V1x is a slightly better ball spin-wise and launch-wise for my golf swing right now, and I do like the A.I.M. line over what's on the TM ball.

Ditto, except for the whole Titleist driver thing. The titleist is a better ball IMHO. Plus I really had a hard time with the TM ball's durability. I literally had to use 3-4 a round. Thats too many balls when you consider a Prov1x gets me 18 holes easy.

I didn't find their spin around the greens the best, but good enough for my purposes. Distance is pretty good, I'll agree. I play a lot of TaylorMade Red's when I get the chance because my wedges don't chew them up like they do with Pro V1x's. In fact, I played 18 holes with a TP Red one time and didn't have a single scuff on it after the round...can't say that for a Pro V1 which I have to replace after about six holes...

Honestly, I had the opposite experience. I put "gills" into the TM balls with my wedges. While I do rough up the ProV1x as well, the marks are not as deep and hence I get more play out of them before I feel like I need to take it out of play.

Durability aside, I didn't find a whole lot of difference between the TMs and the ProVs.

I LOVE both TaylorMade balls, but the red suits me better. Honestly, I may not be the best golfer even in my house, but I have yet to notice something that the balls didn't do as well as the ProV1's for me.

Ditto. They're about $40-45 just like the Pro V1 pair.

So is anyone using the Taylor Made ball out there? I used to play the Titleist Pro-v1x (well, I still do), but I've been playing the Taylor Made TP-RED lately. I seem to hit it a bit farther off the driver, but pretty much the same distance with the irons. Spin is about the same...feel isn't so good when putting...but that's about the only negative. I read the review on this site and decided to give them a try. Just curious if anyone else is using them...

I actually just tried the black because they were on sale at a local golf store. One dozen was $40, but if you bought a second dozen you got them both for $50. Needless to say it was a no brainer, I actually just bought more because I loved them and the sale was still going on.

I have played them and do like both offerings by TaylorMade. They just didnt perform as well and the Nike One Black off the driver for me. I think there are countless balls on the market that are as good if not better than the ProV1's, at least for my swing. I just cant stand having to throw away a $4 ball every time you hit a full wedge, and thats what I had to do with the ProV's. So am I a Titleist hater, maybe, but I think there is alot more to a ball than just the name they print on it.

I play the old TP Black (still have a stock from last year!) - and i'll be investing in some of the newer TM balls when they run out.

I really like the spin and feel of the ball - but I will use any ball.

Some reasons why I use them - they are usually cheaper by the dozen, no-one else ever plays Taylormade (don't always have to mark it!), and I find they go real far (Only the ProV1x goes as far for me).

I'll use the Red when the greens get rock hard (hopefully it won't rain as much this summer!)

    • @Philip Belgium,  If I haven't already, Welcome to TST.  Your injury sounds serious and I hope you fully recover.   Thanks for sharing your story.  ..... each day get 1-2% better.   (A ray of sunshine and a positive outlook)
    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
