So the other day I hit a shot off into the good old wooded area and played my ball. Well I hit my 52 degree wedge and after hitting my shot I looked at my club and apparently I hit a rock that was under the dirt. Can I just beat the dent back in or is it best just to get another wedge and keep this one in my bag as my bad area beater?

Where is the dent? I have one on the sole of my 52, been there for almost a year, it wears down a bit after some time.

Mine is on the sole right in the middle. Really ticked me off because I love my 52 it is the most used club in my bag.

I'd file it smooth as possible and forget about it.  Frankly i don't think the ball will ever know.

Most used club?  Mine is the putter.

Yea its my most used club besides the putter. I was excluding that bad boy. I just have the fortunate ability of being able to smash the golf ball so since alot of my second shots on par 4s are 100-75 yardish I use my 52 a lot. And my local course's hole that is a 50 yard par 3 that one day I will hopefully figure out.

Yep file it down best you can. Even with the nick, it won't effect your shots.

Ok cool, i'll just take a file to it. I didn't figure it would affect it to much. Not to mention its not like I am a sniper with it to begin with.

You are filing it down to protect yourself from scratches and potential nicks on the ball if it is super sharp.

Wedges get bashed up pretty much from sand anyway - more your 56 - but nothing you do with a file will affect its playability.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Yea I don't care about damage to balls I play cheap tommy armours and whatever I find in the woods. And my sand wedge has enough rust on it it gives the ball lock jaw.

Think of it as giving your club ... "character."

File it down if necessary just to smooth out the leading edge and/or face ...

If you get a nick in the face of a club, take it to a jewelry shop. They have precision grinding equipment, plus the skill to remove the nick without damaging the rest of the face.

The dent is irrelevant...................it's character!!!!!!!Unless you completely blade a shot, the dent is completely irrelevant.....and if you do...it's still irrelevant because you bladed it!!!  I would not bother doing anything to it..........the club is just fine!!!!  Your dent has no effect on a well played shot.

I recently replaced a wedge with character..........

My wedge, however, .......had bigger issues!! LOL    Wear from play is OK folks.....it's character!   If you wear it to the point the shaft snaps off at the hosel and the clubface has obvious wear.................yes, go ahead and buy a new one!!!   Don't try to fix it......new is OK.  I have holed many full shots with this wedge, but I wasn't sad to see it go.   Change is OK when it's had a good life.....

The above is what a 2008 forged Mizuno MP wedge looks like after 1,000 rounds!!!  That's not dirt on the clubface.......it's rust.  LOL

Not really permafrost. The ground only starts to get hard around end of september-october and by now the golf courses are closing till May. So I dont know if permafrost would damage a club.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
