But if is a Carnival Cruise Line then they will catch some other nasty disease on the boat.    It may then mutate with the ebola virus and become the Andromeda Strain.

“Again, the medical personnel fighting this fight, particularly our nurses, deserve our respect,” Mr. de Blasio said. “We heard reports in the last few days of nurses being mistreated in our city – when it became clear that they worked at Bellevue – being treated differently. We heard reports of people being unwilling to serve them food or treating their children differently. That is absolutely unacceptable.”

Since we're quoting articles, how about this one which claims the Dr. Craig Spender (who should know better) lied about where he'd been and only told the truth after police had pulled his credit card data.

Quote:

The city’s first Ebola patient initially lied to authorities about his travels around the city following his return from treating disease victims in Africa, law-enforcement sources said.

Dr. Craig Spencer at first told officials that he isolated himself in his Harlem apartment — and didn’t admit he rode the subways, dined out and went bowling until cops looked at his MetroCard the sources said.

“He told the authorities that he self-quarantined. Detectives then reviewed his credit-card statement and MetroCard and found that he went over here, over there, up and down and all around,” a source said.

Spencer finally ’fessed up when a cop “got on the phone and had to relay questions to him through the Health Department,” a source said.

Officials then retraced Spencer’s steps, which included dining at The Meatball Shop in Greenwich Village and bowling at The Gutter in Brooklyn.

The nurse who was quarantined in NJ has also stated she doesn't plan to follow the home quarantine that's been requested.

This is why people can't be trusted to home quarantine.   My position is if they refuse home quarantine, are deemed to be infected with Ebola and it can be proven that someone they came in contact with was infected they are charged with attempted murder.

I have a great appreciation for what these people are trying to do in assisting those dying in Africa from Ebola but they have to take proper precautions when they return back to their home country

Dr. Spencer turned himself in as soon as he was symptomatic and Ms. Hickox NEVER was symptomatic. Let me know when either one of them infect somebody out on the street, particularly Ms. Hickox.  I am confident you never will.

And the idea that healthcare workers who haven't even been involved in care for Ebola patients are being shunned simply because they work at Bellevue is ridiculous. Ignorant hair-on-fire hysterics.

This type of behavior is why we need a CDC.

That's not the point, he LIED about where he'd been prior.  Why did he lie if he was 100% certain he wasn't putting people at risk?

This is the behavior of a doctor ? I though he was supposed to take a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath. First: "Do no harm". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primum_non_nocere

I think he took a hypocritical oath instead. Must have had his fingers crossed.

You don't know what his thought process was. Neither do I for that matter, but for all I know he might have wanted to avoid panic knowing he couldn't have passed it on under the circumstances. Irresponsible, yes, but nobody was really at risk until he was symptomatic. Nobody got "Ebowla" in Brooklyn.

Again, his thought process doesn't matter, he outright lied to police when he said he came home and quarantined himself in his home.  It was only when presented with credit card statements he told the truth and he's a doctor.

You don't know who got it yet, it hasn't be 21 days.  Let's hope for everyone's sake no one did get it.

One more time:

Medical authorities say Ebola is difficult to catch and is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person and is not transmitted by asymptomatic people . Ebola is not airborne. I am confident that the only people at risk in NY are the healthcare workers who are currently working directly with Dr. Spencer at Bellevue.

Ms, Hickox is asymptomatic. Doctor Spencer was asymptomatic until that morning when he turned himself in.

I am not arguing that people should not voluntary quarantine at home. I personally would do it. I am saying that it is not really necessary and if Ms. Hickox wants to go out she should be able, as long as she is following the self-monitoring protocols for 21 days.

I don't know, but if we're guessing ... if it was me I would have seen how they reacted to the nurses travels and thought to myself "even though I know I wasn't symptomatic and didn't infect anybody, these people are panicking and are going to inconvenience a whole city full of people because they don't understand.  I don't want to cause them to worry, so I won't mention it."

EDIT:  Sorry @phan52 , didn't notice that you basically already said the same thing.

The fact is he lied to officials about where he went when he returned to NY, that's all I care about.  You and phan can identify all the possible reasons why he lied but that really doesn't matter.

But how does that matter?  Can Ebola be transferred through fibs now?

It appears that California has joined other States and the military in imposing quarantines.

Of course, it's perfectly reasonable to do this.

I thought you were Golfingdad not Golfingdoctor.  The fact the officials asked where he traveled when he returned to NY indicates the officials felt it was important information for them to know.  It's not his call to decide the value or importance of the information, it's his responsibility to answer honestly, but he lied.

But what are the consequences of his lie?  That's all I'm getting at.  It doesn't mean anything.

Sure he shouldn't have lied.  Shame on him.  But after we're done feeling good about ourselves because we wouldn't have lied, then what?  It doesn't change anything, so why do we care?

Because if he lied about that how do we know what else he lied about, such as he wasn't symptomatic when he was traveling around NY?

Maybe you'd be happy to be hanging out with him while he was infected with Ebola, I wouldn't.  If there is any risk I could have been exposed to Ebola, I deserve to know about it, especially from a doctor.
