Better Lucky than Good??

I played in my workplace's Fall Golf Scramble last week, where many of us take a day of leave and go play.  It was a typical shotgun start and my team started on a wooded par 3.  Well, I shot first.  First shot of the day and I pull the ball, like I tend to do, and it heads right into the trees on the left.  But, lo and behold, it proceeds to bounce off a couple of branches and pops back out and lands just in front of the green.  The best part (or worst depending on how you look at it) is nobody else on the team had a good first shot for the day and we all played off my shot for the next shot onto the green.  I always consider it a good scramble if my shot is chosen as the best a few times in the round and that seldom happens off the tee, but it was funny it happened on the first shot and from a chance ricochet.

I've done things like that. Trees are my friends sometimes. That said, I hate trees :-P Luck is fleeting. Better to be good. Or good AND lucky!

Any time I am trying to clear a tree, I find a way to clip a portion of it.

If there is a branch somewhere I find it.
I play feral balls, and if one lands within 10 yards of a tree, the ball somehow nestles up to it.

If my ball gets anywhere near the woods it just runs away to grandma’s house.

That being said, I will take skill over luck,

But once in a while you get lucky and it is a great feeling.

Unfortanlety I don’t get that often at all.

I dont know, I have seen plenty of people with what I would call "luck" on the course.

I saw a person on a 190 yard par 3, duff a 7 wood and watched it bounce off a rock, roll up the approach, kick off of a sprinkler head and roll into the hole.

That is dumb luck!

I have always been more lucky than good with my golf game. Some of the putts I have made over the years attest to that. However, I think the "good" part has always helped with the "lucky" part.

Agreed.

I think you have a better chance at being lucky when you are good, then having luck when your game is bad!
