There was a quite a meltdown by the field down the stretch. Win by attrition.

I read an article that said McIlroy is playing but I don't see his name in the field.

I think he's only playing the last two tournaments. He's skipping the first two to take care of legal matters I believe.

At the WGC HSBC Champiomship McDowell leads by 2 shots at -5. At T2 a group of people including Kaymer and Fowler. Also some bad scores today, for example Dubuisson (+4), Luiten and Streelman (+5) and again Jimenez (+6).

With the Turkish Airlines Open we're back in the European timezone. This third tournament of The Final Series has a purse of $ 7 million.

Besides last year's winner Dubuisson we'll see Stenson, Garcia, Kaymer, Donaldson, Luiten, Poulter and Westwood in the field. We can expect some really low scores on this course...

The tee times have been announced: http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2014/tournamentid=2014090/teetimes/index.html

The last three pairings seem quite interesting:

Donald - Jimenez - Lowry

Poulter - Luiten - Levy

Dubuisson - Kaymer - Stenson

Title defender Dubuisson starts with a double bogey on the first, while Jimenez (very bad form lately) starts with an eagle on the same hole. Interesting tournament, with a lot of low scores expected.

Colsaerts is messing things up again. Was at -1, but then shot a 10 at the par 5 fourth hole, immediatly followed by a double bogey. Four players including Jimenez leading at -6 at the moment.

Jimenez found his form back, after day 1 he's leading at -9, followed by Poulter at -8. Colsaerts had, besides two Turkish amateurs and Hoey, the worst round of the day at +8.

Other notables with bad rounds: Donald (+2), Garcia (+3) and title defender Dubuisson (+5). Luiten somewhere in the middle at -2.

Poulter taking the lead, currently at -5 for the day and three shots clear of De Jonge. Jimenez already shot 3 bogeys today (+1).

One of my favorite players, Brooks Koepka, takes a surprise win! Very cool.

Very very happy for Brooks. Not only because he seems like a good kid with a bright future, and not only because he's an American fighting it out on the Euro Tour, but also because he edged out Poulter.

Next: The World Tour Championship in Dubai, last tournament of the season and with a purse of $ 8,000,000 one of the biggest tournaments on the ET. Only the top 60 of the Race to Dubai will play here, including Rory McIlroy.

Top 5 in 2013:

1. Stenson -25

2. Poulter -19

3. Dubuisson -17

4. Luiten -16

5. Donald, McIlroy, Westwood -15

I thought this was over as Rory had accumulated so many points, aka $$$$, that no one could catch him. Yes, the may play golf in Dubai, but even now we know the winner. There is no competition, only a run for second place.  But i may have misread the UK papers.

Look here              http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/golf/europeantour/11234159/Rory-McIlroy-wins-Race-to-Dubai-after-Brooks-Koepka-seals-the-Turkish-Airlines-Open.html

No-one else can win the season, but the tournament itself is one very big one with an 8 million dollar purse. Anyone can win this Dubai Tour Championship.

Final tournament started today (will re-air on Golf Channel at 9am CT) as two Irishmen jumped to the top of the leaderboard. Shane Lowry and you guessed it.....Rory McIlroy came out guns blazing and both shot a 66 (-6) to take the lead in the 1st round.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
