Hi all! I'm pretty new to golf, started out about a month ago and haven't git much time to play yet (Am 18 and still in high school), but I have developed a liking of the game. I've played a few rounds of 9 holes at our local course, and only 3 full rounds of 18 where I scored 133, 120 and 117. I know I can easily drop to a 100 with some help. I seem to be very inconsistent off the tee and on the fairway. One day I would hit a 5 wood (Don't have a driver yet) off the tee perfectly, and then suddenly it all turns bad. Next time I try the 3 iron and it also goes well for a bit, but I always end up with bad shots somewhere. The same on the fairway. One day I would hit 6 great approach shots onto the green and then out of nowhere all my approach shots go south, either going straight right or falling short. Arround the grwen I'm not too bad. I usually putt from anywhere within 5 meters of the green, because my putting is probably my most consistent part of the game (practice a lot at home, but I have a lot of room for improvement. I won't be able to play for about the next month with exams coming up, but would like to train where I can. Any advice on how to practice my shots with limited time and room? I do have the chance to hit a few shots on our schoolks field every now and then, but I don't know how to utilize that time. Any advice would be much appreciated!:)

Welcome to the site @ChrisPietersen

Many of us found and joined this site for the exact same reason.  We want to get better at golf.  We have a few excellent instructors on the site and a lot of very good players.  We also have many forum members who are going through the same process as you.

The Swing Thoughts section is the best place to start and learn.  The Instruction and Playing Tips section has a lot of good information, but you may have to search a bit there.  Another great way to improve is to post a video of your swing in the Members Swings section.  Don't be shy about posting a swing.  That is the fastest way to improvement.

Tell us where you are from and also you can put your first name in your signature section.  Most of us have done that so our posts are a little less anonymous.

If you have any questions about using the site, check out our "Using the Site" section , and Little Things New Users can learn.

Here are some great threads to get started and familiar with The Sand Trap

FYI, if you type @ and then the u ser name, it will bring up a drop list to pick a user name.  When you address this way, it sends an e-mail to the user notifying them that they have been mentioned in a post.  They also get notified if you quote them.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
