Mickelson has, however, begun work in his new role. The Sydney Morning Herald reported Nov. 6 that top Australian junior Ryan Ruffels recently received a phone call from Mickelson. According to Ruffels, 16, Mickelson called to lure him to Arizona State.

Either Phil's arthritis is worse than we know, or the job is mostly a figurehead/recruiting type position.

I was thinking the same thing.  Seems weird for a pro still very active on the Tour to take such a position unless he was planning to retire soon.  Otherwise it was just ASU wanting Phil associated with their program.  Could be this will be Phil's next career and he doesn't plan to play much on the Champions Tour.

For those of you that don't know Phil's brother, Tim,  is the head golf coach at ASU.  So I suspect this is an "volunteer" position and he has no intention of putting Tim Mickelson out of a job.

I think I have figured this out between the local paper and TV news.  If Phil is an "official" coach he is allowed to recruit for ASU per some recent changes in the NCAA rules.  So he accepts an unpaid assistant coach position and wah-la he can not recruit for brother Tim & ASU.  I don't see anything particularly wrong with this.  I suspect other colleges and universities are doing this but just don't have such notable alumnus or are better at keeping it quiet.

    • It's going to be very difficult for the 2026 Masters to match the 2025 edition for storyline. I honestly don't know that anyone else in the field could match the story of Rory finally winning after so many years and the blow ups over the years, not to mention the career slam being completed. No one this year that I can think of is remotely close to that kind of story. Combine that with the attempts at blow ups last year (Double on the 1st, 13, 18 on first try) and the stunningly good shots that he hit in the final round (7, 15, 17, 18 on second try).  Full gamut: https://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/2025-04-13/17445961638226475/every_single_shot_from_rory_mcilroys_final_round.html
    • Let's kick off the 2026 Masters talk with… a look back at 2025 (coming soon):
    • Wow, so Europe named Luke for a third term. Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Who will the U.S. name? I hope not Tiger Woods.
    • I am playing Arrowhead for the first time and I am pumped.  What are some things that I need to make sure and appreciate, for those that have played it before and love it? It has been a pretty dry winter so I am expecting rough to be forgiving which is nice and it will be playing much easier than it does in the late summer (I am assuming based on other colorado courses).  What should I make sure to not miss?
