In the practice area at my club here near Los Angeles there was a Volvik tour van and they were working with some Korean pro's, men and women. After watching them for a while one of the Volvik reps asked me about my game and the ball I used, and I told him I really like playing the Srixon Z Star. He asked me my swing speed, and not knowing, I just guessed it in the low to mid 90's. Hitting in the same setup that the other players were hitting I soon found out my REAL swing speed averaged 84mph.

They make the "Vista" which is their 4 piece tour ball, but he had me hit their "Crystal" and the "DS-77" against the Srixon Z Stars I had in my bag. Pretty eye-opening when I saw the results...and FELT the results. Ended up being fit with the "Crystal" which is a true 3-piece ball. Been playing them for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be more pleased. I knew you could get CLUBS fitted, but getting properly "fit" for a golf ball was something new...and LONG overdue!

I know the LPGA has a number of players using their balls, and now some of the Champions Tour players are using them too. What also surprised me was reading the results of "Independent Labs" testing that show the Volvik ball performing BETTER that even the Titleist balls. He told me that Volvik is stepping up their sponsorship of Web.Com players knowing that once they make it to the "Big Show" there will be more visibility for Volvik on the PGA tour.

I'm not trying to "convert" everyone, but if you get a chance give 'em a try...might just surprise you!

Hello Mr. Bill.  What do you mean by 'swing speed averaged 84mph'?  Over all the clubs from driver to wedge, or all the driver shots you took?

And if only the average of driver shots, at 84mph those drives won't be going very far and so how can you get to HC of 3?  I only ask because there seems to be a dis-connect between your handicap (a measure of scoring)  and your driver swing speed.

BTW, i use plenty of Volvik balls here in Asia.  Nice balls, some covers rough up easily but all round good. Lots of swell colors but if matching the fallen tree flowers, trouble finding in the rough.

Yes, Volvik has certainly stepped up their game recently and are producing some very nice balls. Several of us have had the opportunity to review them recently.

If I could buy Volvik golf balls conveniently,  I would switch from Bridgestone. I used Volviks years ago, and truely felt they were as good as anything else on the market. Still do.

I play the Volvik Vista iV in green. You can get them at Edwin Watts. $42 a dozen. The Vista is a long ball with a firmer cover but bites as well as a Pro V1 on approach shots. I prefer a ball with a consistent release when chipping and a Pro V1 sometimes checks and sometimes not. I know it's me but the Volvik is more consistent. Volvik makes a Vista iS that spins more but does not come in green. The Crystal does not check very well for me. Too hard. I like it off the tee for scrambles.

I see them listed on Dick's Sporting Goods website but don't recall seeing them in the stores. I only see colored balls listed.

I've checked out Dick's and have not found them. I had to really search for them at Edwin Watts, but eventually found them.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
