LPGA Passes Champions Tour for TV Viewership

I'm sure you're right about the PGA skill level and the distances they shoot. That's got to be incredible to see in person.

The only reason I mentioned the LPGA event in Grand Rapids is because it's only a 2 hr drive and I'm certain that level of golf - precision-wise anyway - is far beyond anything I've witnessed where I've played.

You need to have the right personalities to generate interest in the Champions Tour.  Lee Trevino, Chi Chi and others had the Seniors fairly popular for a while.  Now, they play great golf but they are not considered "major league" by many of us.  The PGA and LPGA tours are both big time, similar to men's and women's tennis.  IMO the PGA showcases the best golfers in the world with their length and power and gets most of my attention, but the LPGA has some great golfers and winning a Women's US Open as Michelle Wie did carries more prestige than winning the Seniors US Open (I cannot even recall who won in 2014).
