EGAT is the Energy Authority of Thailand, Mae Mo is the small town nearby, in Lampang Province, about 130 km from Chiang Mai.  A massive lignite coal mine dominates the scene and supports  the monster coal fired electrical generating  plant.  Fortunately, the wise owls have decided golf would be good for the workers or anyone.   Very cheap, only 450 baht (US$14.00), plus always must tip caddy 300 baht. Course in good shape, plenty of water, low cost labor and owned by govt, so you know 'no expense spared' to put up good show.  Few players on our day so no rush and we  went around in 4 hours.  Greens good but a bit furry and slow. Many small ponds;  some up hill and down travels  but we were in power buggies. If you're in the area, worth the journey.

Low, rocky mountains.  Of course, never snows here.

Every course offers a different caddy uniform. We also had 2 'umbrella girls'.

Palm trees and ponds. A nice cloudy day, temp 85*F.

Go for it.  If successful, win 2 tons of super cement, bagged.

Uphill to the green. Where is that hole?

Many workers, maybe Burmese immigrants, digging out the weeds, pruning the trees, watering the greens.

Pretty commonly seen. If  inside the circle, pick up.  Speeds up play, may reduce scores.  Both items supported by most players!

Signature hole.  147 yards, very downhill, very wet. Yes, the mine and it's minions in the far background.

Lovely to look at but not so easy to hit.  Can clearly hear the big mine trucks toiling away from tee box.

The best player, hits the green first attempt.  Followed by our 6,  2 each,  water balls. Ugh.

Oops, what are those sticking up?

Since you asked.  Yes, the nearby power plant and Main Street, Mae Mo. Thailand.

Thanks for the fascinating look into golf in Thailand.  Quite a sight looking out over the mining area.
