Recently I was playing with alingnment sticks in my bag. Somehow they got up inside the headcover of my G20 driver and scratched the crown. Is there any way to repair the scratches without futher damaging the driver? Ping will refinish the driver for $65, but I would rather put that towards a new driver rather than fixing an old one. Thanks.

How bad is it? Does it affect your play any? I'd leave it if it doesn't bother you. $65 is definitely more money than I'd be willing to spend on an old driver. If you were willing to spend the money, you should invest it in a newer club. Maybe you can color it in with some black marker just so you can't see the scratches? I'd try it with a dry erase first in case you don't like the look.

The scratches are not too bad, and have no affect on playability. I just don't like looking at them, and they will affect trade in or resale value when I do get a new driver. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any self fixes.

I did the same thing with my Titleist 910D2 and alignment sticks.  I may try rubbing compound at some point, but I am afraid that it will make it worse.

Hmm sounds like it's a pretty common problem. I also keep my alignment sticks in the same slot as my driver. That's gonna have to change before I get my new driver.

If I carry them again, I'm going to put an old headcover on them. When I called Ping, the customer service rep said he scratched his driver the same way.

Here is a different approach that I have done.  My grandchildren came this summer and we bought them a cheap little tent.  The poles are the kind with an elastic strap inside the pole.  The pole folds down to about two feet in length and is eight feet overall.  Fits in side pocket on my bag.  Hope the description is adequate.  Tent was a dome tent and cost twenty bucks at Walmart.  Two poles per tent so you can use both, break one or loose one.

If the scratches aren't too deep, you might want to try an automotive scratch & swirl removing paste that's approved for clear coat car finishes. I've removed or reduced some minor crown scratches with this stuff recently. If it won't damage a automotive clear coat finish, it probably will not damage the paint job on your driver.
