It would be a shame for him to miss the Cadillac, for us fans, but for Tiger? I guess he would be pissed, but not that pissed, not unless it becomes a major in the next few weeks.

My thinking is revenue based. If he plays, the revenue generated will Trump (pun intended) a lot of rules.  Someone might conveniently drop out opening up a spot for him. The guy, even with his current poor showings, is still a cash cow for the PGA.

As of right now Tiger is out for WGC Doral. His ranking plumetted to 56th after his showing in Phoenix. Other notables: Rory is #1 obviously, and his margin is a stout 4 points over Henrik Stenson. Brooks Koepka climbs from 33 to 19.

Even if somebody drops out that does not make the OWGR #51 eligible for this event.

If Woody wants to play Doral, he will play Doral.

A lot of people thought the same about Ernie Els at the Masters in 2012......

Well, right now Tiger needs 6 guys to drop out, and if he plays this week like he played in Phoenix he might need 12 guys to drop out.

No, he needs to be inside the top 50 to get in. It doesn't matter if 20 drop out.

I was thinking this is like the match play, but I think you are correct. On that count, I give him almost no chance at all. He's more likely to continue to drop than to ascend this spring.

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
